Common SBA financing misconception: the SBA usually does not hand the business owner a loan directly.
SBA programs are generally offered through participating lenders, with the SBA guaranteeing a portion of an eligible loan. The business still needs to meet program and lender requirements, demonstrate a sound business purpose, and show the ability to repay.
ROK Financial’s overview also explains the difference between two common programs: SBA 7(a), which may support a range of eligible business purposes, and SBA 504, which is generally used for qualifying fixed assets such as equipment or real estate.
