TECH TIP: Wasps in Your Grill? Think Before You Spray!

Finding a wasp nest inside your grill can be a frustrating surprise—especially when you’re getting ready for a cookout!
Because grills are used for cooking food, we want to be especially careful about introducing pesticides into or around these areas.

In some situations, soapy water can be used to help eliminate wasps without applying a pesticide directly inside the grill. The soap can disrupt the insects’ ability to breathe when they are thoroughly contacted.

⚠️Safety first: Never approach or disturb an active nest without taking proper precautions. Wasps can become very aggressive when their nest is threatened. And remember—always follow the product label and manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and using your grill after dealing with a nest.

Summer is Bat Season!

Finding bats inside your home can be alarming, but it's important to remember that bats are incredibly beneficial wildlife. They consume thousands of insects each night and play a vital role in our ecosystem. Unfortunately, bat populations have suffered dramatic declines due to White-nose Syndrome, a fungal disease that has killed more than one million bats across the United States.

At Northern Colorado Pest & Wildlife Control, we take bat conservation seriously. That sometimes creates challenges because, although bats are beneficial to our environment, a colony living in a home can create health concerns, including the potential risk of rabies exposure.

Our first step is always to identify the bats' primary roost location and determine what type of colony is present. During the spring and early summer, most colonies are nursery colonies made up of mothers raising flightless pups. Because the young bats cannot yet fly, we wait until mid-August before installing one-way eviction devices. This ensures the entire colony—including the babies—can safely leave the structure without harming a single bat.

Once every bat has exited, we permanently exclude the colony by sealing the existing entry points along with other potential access areas around the home or business. This humane approach protects both your property and our local bat populations.
