A short poem for
Miss Josephine Jones.

Her father simply rolls in dough,
Her mother's awful tony,
I know that I would have no show,
Proposing Matrimony.
My weekly buckage is fifteen ---
At trifling sum, one owns;
Far, far too small, it's easy seen,
Too even woo Miss Josephine Jones.

That's why my boss complains of late
That I've become neglectful,
Because my love's decreed by fate
To be so darned respectful.
I want to pet that little queen
And talk in dulcet tones,
But while for that I'm more than keen,
She is, alas, Miss Josephine Jones.

If this should meet the maiden's eye
She'll know how I'm repining;
She'll know at night I groan and sigh,
All hope of rest resigning.

My sufferings, unguessed, unseen,
Would melt the hearts of stones;
But still respectful I have been,
Aware that she's Miss Josephine Jones.
