Almost every dollar that flows in and out of a law firm's trust account begins with an email.

That’s the opening fraudsters use. They gain access to accounts, and quietly read through past emails until they understand the processes in place. After that, it’s only a matter of time before they can take advantage of the situation.

The FBI logged 21,442 business email compromise complaints in 2024 with $2.77 billion in reported losses. BakerHostetler found the average fraudulent wire has climbed to $1.26 million, and firms take a median of 18 days to notice.

Our new blog covers how the scheme reaches the money and what verification actually stops it.

Your backups are probably happening as scheduled, but would they work if needed after a major disaster event? We've found that sometimes routinely scheduled backup tasks can fail quietly for months when someone isn't reviewing or testing those backups.

We would encourage out followers to consider reviewing who audits backup success reports and how often, whether a copy lives somewhere ransomware cannot reach, and when someone last performed an actual test restore.

This is one of many reasons to partner with a Managed Service Provider to ensure that your data is properly backed up and accessable in the event of a disaster event.

Huntress has a clear breakdown of the 3-2-1 rule if you want to review your current backup process:

Discover how the 3-2-1 backup rule strengthens your backup strategy against ransomware. Plus, learn how to implement cloud backup best practices with ease.

Unreliable warehouse connectivity can prove catastrophic for a business, resulting in a hundred small delays that everyone has to work around. Re-scans, manual entries, mis-picks, drivers idling. Add it up across a year and "the Wi-Fi is a little spotty" becomes a major loss of income.

Our new blog puts numbers to what unreliable warehouse connectivity actually costs, and what a properly designed wireless network looks like in a warehouse environment.

Every year for the better part of a decade, Scott and Andy Warner have made the Greeley Area Chamber's Prairie Dog Classic a standing tradition, and this year's round at The Greeley Country Club added a few more photos to the collection. Some of these faces have been in the group photo since the beginning.

Thanks to the Greeley Area Chamber of Commerce for keeping this one going. It sells out every year for a reason.

Swipe through for a look at the years.

It happens in community associations everywhere. Volunteers rotate out, but the access never gets cleaned up. Email accounts, bank portals, vendor logins, document storage. All still open to people who no longer have any role in the organization. Nobody's being malicious. Nobody's paying attention either.

Our latest blog covers why stale access is one of the biggest risks facing HOAs and boards, and how to run a simple access cleanup that closes the gaps.

IT budget season sneaks up fast, with most businesses planning their 2027 spending in September and October.

Before you carry over last year's numbers, it's worth asking a few questions. What hardware is close to it’s end of life? Which licenses are you paying for but not using? Where did unplanned IT costs hurt you this year, and what could prevent a repeat?

We help clients prepare for budget season with years of experience so the coming year will be more productive and cost effective than the last.

Remember: a technology review now means fewer surprises in 2027.

Stolen credentials show up in almost every breach story we've shared this month. Cargo theft, compromised law firms, old logins that never got shut off.

The fix is simple: MFA on every account that supports it. Banking, payroll, remote access, admin tools. And a quarterly review of everyone that still has access to it.

CISA's four best practices for businesses is a solid place to benchmark yourself, outlining backups, MFA, patching, and passwords.

Client files, privileged communications, and case records all live on systems somewhere, and the bar expects them to be protected whether you have an IT department or not. "We didn't know" has never been a strong defense.

Our new blog looks at what data protection obligations really mean for law firms, and where small and midsize firms most often fall short.
