Update of the Bartz v Anthropic piracy settlement: The judge granted a preliminary approval on Sept. 25, 2025 based on additional information submitted by both the plaintifs and the defendant. He set Oct. 2, 2025 as the deadline for the creation of a searchable database with qualifying titles.

See the excellent article on Authors Guild for details that every author who may have a book that was pirated needs to know about this settlement and what they need to do.

We never know how far our contributions reach until someone tells us. I had someone from Pakistan contact me this week on LinkedIn telling me how much he appreciated a presentation I had made on "Copyright in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" back in April.

The presentation was hosted and recorded (with permission) by the Midwest Independent Publishers Association (MiPA). My thanks to MiPA for hosting the event and sharing it with others!

I just submitted a post on LinkedIn about a recent study by OpenAI about how often three of its AI models hallucinate. The finds should give everyone pause for concern!

"Just the facts, AI." You can ask AI for the facts, but AI doesn't always deliver. It's not me saying this: it's OpenAI saying it. In April OpenAI published its own internal evaluation of hallucinations by its o1, o3, and o4-mini models. Their findings should be a wakeup call to anyone who puts blin...

Teddy Smith was a great host on this episode titled "Why AI Content Can't Be Copyrighted (And What Authors Need to Know)". I felt that he and I had excellent rapport throughout the recording. And he asked thoughtful questions that quickly got us into topics that every author should be asking. He also was quick to prompt me to clarify differences between US copyright law and UK copyright law.
