Living out our core value of Venture Boldy, the illumyx team tried pickleball recently. The majority of us had never played and thought it would be fun to try together as a team.

Fort Howard Park in Ashwaubenon was a perfect place to play pickleball as well as shoot some hoops!

Wait what? Promoting an employee may increase their likelihood of leaving? Yup… that is according to the research cited in this recent Forbe’s article. We had to do a double take on this too.
On a recent project, we were working with an HR manager on a pilot program to impact culture and retention at a manufacturing plant within their global operations. We had amazing success. So much so that the HR manager caught the eye of the global leadership team. She got promoted to the regional executive team and there were talks of expanding the pilot program to other parts of the organization. He was so excited. It was the promotion that she had worked so hard for and she definitely earned it.
We were absolutely shocked when she called a month later and told our team she was taking an opportunity at another organization that was just too good to pass up. It made zero sense to us. Why leave when you seemingly got everything you wanted and there is still work to be done?
It turns out it is complicated and this Forbe’s article does such a great job of illustrating the impact of added job pressures and the lure of a fresh start.
Our internal data indicates that opportunities to advance in your career are a consistently positive factor in retaining employees. The question now is: How do you retain your top talent after they’ve gotten the carrot they’ve been chasing after for so long?
