Lets talk dryer maintenance... your dryer needs routine maintenance the same as your car does... Maybe not quite as often, But proper maintenance of your dryer can save you some money, And possible headaches down the road... It is estimated that between 10 and 15 thousand house fires are caused by dryer's each year... So not only can proper maintenance save you some trouble, It could also save your home , or your life... The first thing is keeping your lint trap clean... That's an easy task... The second thing, And just as important, if not more so ,is your dryer's vent hose... It's a little more detailed, but a clean vent hose can not only keep your dryer running more efficiently , but prevent fires, and save you money on repairs.. It is also recommended to not run more than 8 feet of vent hose, Or to have it bunched up behind your dryer... If you know where your vent house comes out at, Check it to see if there is proper air flow... You should feel a pretty good amount of air coming out there... If not, You have an obstruction, or a kinked vent hose, Which needs to be taken care of ASAP... Also , if your dryer is making noises, or acting weird... Get it checked out ASAP.. It could be the difference between a $50.00 repair, Or a lot more expensive repair, Or even a new dryer... One example comes to mind.. A gentleman had a GE dryer that was making a squealing noise... He thought it was a belt squealing... It turned out it was the drum slide assembly.. GE uses four drum slides on the front of the drum... They can be replaced for $50.00 parts and labor... Since he let it go on for months, It ate up the assembly, Which cost $ 120.00... Still cheaper than a new dryer, But $70.00 more than it needed to be...
