Good marketing is collaborative.

A little behind-the-scenes time lapse from our recent recording session with the team at Northampton Media Group and WRSI: recording, listening, tweaking, laughing, and recording again until we got it just right.

It was a great reminder of the value of working with talented people who know their medium, and know this region.

This team brings so much more to the process than studio space. They listened to what we were trying to communicate, helped us refine the delivery, and worked alongside us until the final spot felt right.

That's exactly the kind of local partnership we value.

PV Squared talks a lot about the importance of keeping our energy dollars local. We believe the same thing about our business dollars.

Sometimes you get to see exactly what "community infrastructure" looks like!

Last week, community leaders, elected officials, project partners, and neighbors gathered in downtown Greenfield to cut the ribbon on the new 60 Wells Street & Support Options, Inc. campus.

The approximately $27 million development brings together 36 permanent supportive housing apartments, expanded emergency shelter for up to 42 people, and behavioral health, recovery, employment, housing, and other supportive services, all in one downtown location.

PV Squared Solar is incredibly proud to have provided the solar energy system that will become part of that infrastructure for decades to come!

Seeing CSO President & CEO Karin Jeffers, MS, LMHC, Congressman Jim McGovern, Greenfield Mayor Ginny Desorgher, and so many of the people who helped make this project possible gathered together for the ribbon cutting was a powerful reminder:

Resilience isn't built by one organization.

It takes housing providers, municipalities, funders, contractors, service organizations, clean-energy professionals, and communities bringing different expertise to the same table.

As a Greenfield-based worker-owned cooperative, this project is particularly meaningful to us. This isn't a building we'll only ever see in project photos.

We'll walk past it.
We'll drive past it.
We'll watch people move in.

And above it, the solar system our team installed will quietly generate electricity for a place dedicated to providing safety, stability, dignity, and home.

We're grateful to Clinical & Support Options, Inc., Rural Development, Inc., the City of Greenfield, and the many partners who brought this vision to life.

We share plenty of polished finished arrays around here, but there's something pretty satisfying about seeing the process, too... the careful layout, skilled hands, safety systems, and attention to detail that go into getting every panel exactly where it belongs.

During one week of extreme heat, distributed solar saved New England ratepayers an estimated $130 million to $149 million in wholesale electricity costs.

That’s infrastructure doing its job!

During the heat wave that stretched from June 28 through July 4, more than six gigawatts of distributed solar helped reduce electricity demand across New England when the grid was under some of its greatest strain.

On July 2 alone, those savings were estimated at $39 million to $54 million.

And during portions of the heat wave, distributed solar supplied more than one-quarter of New England’s electricity demand.

No single rooftop did that.

Thousands of systems on homes, farms, businesses, schools, municipalities, nonprofits, and community properties did it together.

That’s one of the most important things to understand about solar: its value doesn’t stop at the property line.

Every thoughtfully designed system becomes part of a larger regional energy resource: reducing demand, lowering exposure to expensive peak generation, and helping build a more resilient electric system.

In our latest blog, we look at what happened during July’s heat wave, why distributed solar lowers electricity costs for everyone, and how battery storage can extend those benefits even further.

Solar is more than a consumer product.

It’s infrastructure.

The best development projects solve more than one challenge at a time.

Today’s Daily Hampshire Gazette highlights the forthcoming transformation of the former Hadley EconoLodge into Russell Crossing, a $16.3 million development that will create 50 affordable apartments for as many as 63 low, and moderate, income residents.

PV Squared is thrilled to serve as the project’s solar energy partner!

This adaptive-reuse project will preserve and transform an existing building, expand access to affordable housing, provide supportive and workforce housing, and incorporate locally generated clean energy into its next chapter.

We want to recognize Valley Community Development for the leadership and persistence required to bring a project of this scale together; Keiter Corp., the general contractor leading the renovation; and Austin Design, a member of the broader project team. We also celebrate Clinical & Support Options and the VA in Leeds for helping ensure that some future residents will have access to meaningful supportive services.

The project is further supported by local, state, federal, nonprofit, and financial partners, including the Hadley Affordable Housing Trust Fund, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston Affordable Housing Program, the Community Economic Development Assistance Corporation, PeoplesBank, and Greenfield Savings Bank.

Affordable housing, adaptive reuse, supportive services, and renewable energy all require deep collaboration. We’re honored to contribute our expertise to a project that will turn a former hotel into something our region urgently needs: home.
