The Greenlawn Fire District is located in the center of the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. The approximately 4-square-mile area encompasses Greenlawn, as well as parts of the hamlets of Elwood and Huntington. The district is home to roughly 15,000 residents, as well as a wide variety of properties ranging from health and elder care facilities to industrial and manufac

turing businesses; from houses of worship and restaurants to a Long Island Railroad Station; and from an animal shelter to 6 public schools. This diverse district is protected by the 125 active members of the Greenlawn Volunteer Fire Department; friends and neighbors who have the desire to serve and the ability to help. Founded in 1902, the Greenlawn Volunteer Fire Department continues to be a cornerstone of the Greenlawn community. The Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics of the Department provide emergency fire and medical response from two stations; GFD Headquarters, located on Boulevard Avenue and Station #1, located on Little Plains Road. These dedicated men and women undergo hundreds of hours of training in order to provide the best service possible to those in need, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The GFD is proud to be one of the few remaining all volunteer departments in the region.

It’s a family affair in the Greenlawn Fire Department!

Ex-Chief Scott Dalrymple and his son, new member Michael Dalrymple, were side by side answering the call at a recent automatic alarm this afternoon. Moments like these are what the volunteer fire service is all about — family, tradition, and a commitment to serving the community whenever the call comes in.

For generations, families have helped shape the pride and dedication of the Greenlawn Fire Department, and it’s always special to see that tradition continue with the next generation stepping up to serve.
