Ever bought a phone system and then couldn't find anyone accountable when something went wrong?

That's exactly why we built this page. It features a note from Joan Wilkerson, our Chief Operating Officer, who has spent more than 10 years at Carolina Digital Phone making sure every customer gets the service they were promised.

Joan works side by side with schools, municipalities, and businesses that can't afford a phone system that goes quiet. Her promise is simple: if something breaks, we own it. If a promise was made, we deliver it.

Here's what a hosted VoIP phone system from Carolina Digital Phone gets you:

βœ… Keep your current phone number
βœ… Calls on every device: desk phones, mobile apps, and desktops on one business number
βœ… Business texting and an optional AI receptionist for after hours
βœ… Clear monthly pricing with no long-term contracts
βœ… Accountable local support from real people, right here in the Triad

We've been serving businesses, schools, and government agencies since 2000, and most small teams are up and running in days, not weeks.

Customers don't always mind waiting for help, but they do appreciate knowing what's happening. Professional greetings, hold messages, and efficient call handling create a better experience and show customers their time is valued. Small improvements like these often have a lasting impact.

Heading into a new week, I keep hearing the same thing from owners around Greensboro and the rest of North Carolina:
β€œMy phone system is fine… until it isn’t.”

Dropped calls. A bill nobody can explain. Support that never owns the problem. A missed after-hours call that was actually a new customer.

I built Carolina Digital Phone here in Greensboro in 2000 so local businesses would not have to call a national call center for a phone that should just work. Local VoIP Provider is that same team β€” hosted voice, business texting, and an optional AI receptionist β€” with people who still answer the phone.

If you have been thinking about switching:

βœ… Keep your current number
βœ… No long-term contract
βœ… Greensboro-based support
βœ… Set up in days, not weeks

Takes about 30 seconds to see if we are a fit. No pitch.

Moving to cloud calling is not only picking a phone system.
If the circuit is saturated, the phones are on crowded Wi-Fi, or SIP ALG is still on in the router, even a good hosted platform will sound like a bad one. Those problems show up on day one if you wait until after cutover.

Do the unglamorous work first:

β€’ Enough bandwidth for voice, not just β€œwe have fiber”
β€’ Wired sets where a dropped call actually costs money
β€’ QoS so a backup or a big upload does not steal the call
β€’ A path if the office internet dies
β€’ E911 records that match where people sit

Carolina Digital Phone has walked that list with North Carolina businesses, schools, and agencies since 2000.

The office internet is down. A customer dials your main number.
If they hear a dead line, the outage just became a customer-service problem.

If the call rings a mobile or another office, you are still in business.

That second path is call failover β€” and it is not the same as forwarding everything to one cell after 5:00.
Write it on a calm Tuesday:

β€’ What rings if the building goes dark for an hour
β€’ Who is allowed to answer and transfer
β€’ What the caller hears

Then test it. Caller ID, pickup, transfer, voicemail-to-email.
Carolina Digital Phone runs the hosted platform across geographically separate facilities. Your failover rules decide where the call lands when your last mile is the part that failed.

A resident calls your main line. A dispatcher needs a 911 caller's exact floor and room. An auditor asks for the retention policy on your recorded calls. A records request lands on your desk for a text thread nobody remembers existed.

None of that is hypothetical. It's Tuesday for a lot of government offices.

Our new guide breaks down what actually makes a government phone system compliant, not just because it has a government contract or runs in the cloud: emergency calling and dispatchable location, public records retention (including North Carolina's specific requirements), accessibility, security controls, and what belongs in your procurement language before you ever sign a contract.

We also included a practical checklist you can run through during implementation and at least once a year after that.

This is operational guidance, not legal advice; your counsel and records officer should confirm what applies to your specific agency. But it's a solid starting point for the conversation.

Full guide, link in comments. Or call us at (336) 544-4000 if you want to talk through what applies to your department specifically.
