Clinical Supervision: A Closer Look

Not all supervision looks the same, and that’s a good thing.

Supervision style can make the difference between feeling evaluated, and feeling empowered.

Here are a few common approaches:

Developmental Supervision:
Focuses on where you are in your professional journey. More structure and guidance.

Reflective Supervision:
Creates space to explore your internal responses, and how they influence your clinical work.

Trauma-Informed Supervision:
Centers safety, cultural awareness, power dynamics, and nervous system regulation, recognizing that clinicians are human, too.

Directive vs. Collaborative Supervision:
Some supervision styles are more instructive and skills-based. Others are more collaborative and discussion-driven. Many supervisors blend both depending on your needs.

The right fit isn’t about one style being “better.” It’s about finding a space where you feel heard, supported, and challenged in ways that build your confidence and competence.

• A place where culture and identity are ignored
• A one-way directive or power struggle
