Story of nonprofit impact

In 2023, Lillian and her teenage daughter were sleeping in an undrivable car. Her daughter went into foster care and Lillian's world was torn apart.

β€œIt’s always been me and her. Her not being by my side, something wasn’t right. I had to get on the ball and get it together.”

She took a chance and went to Triad Goodwill's Career Center, where she connected with Justine, who helped her find job leads every single week. Thanks to partnerships with Held and Wheels4Hope, she secured an apartment and a safe, reliable car.

She worked.
She showed up.
She kept going.

Even when the bus was late, even when jobs ended, even when her daughter was placed in foster care, even when it felt impossible. She didn't give up.

Today, Lillian works full-time with benefits at Cone Health. Her daughter lives with her in a home she has had for more than a year. She's building savings, looking forward, and enjoying the present moment.

Lillian says it best: "Just don't give up. There's hope, and there are people out there willing to help."
