As working from home grew in response to the pandemic, workers' right to disconnect was adopted in some countries to address the blurred lines between office and home.

I've been researching new reforms in Belgium and Portugal to address these concerns and identified some related implications. There are more, but it would have made my article too long 😀

I'm interested in your comments and hearing about how you balance working from home. What are some challenges you see in legislation meant to protect employees in an always-on 💡 environment?

Happy Friday to All! I've been reading about some legal reforms for working from home in Belgium and Portugal and thought they would be worth sharing ...

Stereotypes and misunderstandings have created ongoing conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in HR and beyond.

What if we challenged our assumptions in a truly inclusive talent strategy instead of just talking about it? One of my most admired persons has done just that.

As an educated elitist by his own definition, he stepped far outside his insulated world. He challenged beliefs about education and knowledge in a culture that holds it as personal currency.

We can learn a lot from Mr. Roy. If you haven’t seen his TED talk, learn about his journey here:

Au Rajasthan, une école extraordinaire apprend aux gens des campagnes, la plupart illettrés, à devenir ingénieur en énergie solaire, artisans, dentistes et médecins dans leur propre village. Elle s'appelle le Barefoot College - l'Université sans chaussures ; son fondateur, Bunker Roy, nous ex...

Freedom is not free.

In honor of those who gave all for the values we hold so dear, and to those continuing the quest.

Josh White, a world-renowned blues musician and civil rights activist from Greenville said this:

“The love I have for America, the land of my birth which has given me every opportunity, is far too great to permit any other allegiance.”

For my fellow Americans, let us echo this sentiment and honor those who make it possible. đŸ‡ș🇾

Recently I wrote an article about a different kind of D&I story. This is an ongoing tale of how two people from different backgrounds, generations, skills, and first languages combine their strengths for collaboration.

More broadly, it is a celebration of the people we all have the potential to meet every day, those who inspire you to level up your knowledge while sharing your own.

Ageism is a reality on both ends of the spectrum, but it is rarely addressed formally in D&I forums. We should stop the practice of placing people into boxes to be checked and unchecked based on perceptions about age and perceived capabilities.

How open are you to new connections that may not fit the typical profile of someone you would connect with?

I’m a big believer in reverse mentorship. Meeting Barath has been one of my most interesting experiences on LinkedIn. His favorite quote is “wear your failure like a badge of honor.” Somehow, I don’t think he’ll have many badges to wear.

What’s a vacation without some international student flair?

At PATH HR we always enjoy connecting with students, whether at a taco stand, over a cup of tea, on occasions or in everyday life.

This Thanksgiving weekend we went old school and had impromptu resume reviews on a long southern porch, socially distanced of course. We sat on bikes, rockers, railings, and ice chests. No presentation, just conversation.

NC Outer Banks (OBX) Travel Tip:
If you’re ever on Okracoke Island, check out Moonraker Tea Shop and Eduardo's Taco Stand.

Your present reality is not permanent.

Think back...

Where were you when your feet first touched the path you were meant to be on?

It helps to remember that hidden within every obstacle is a treasure yet to unfold.

Happy New Year to All! This post is a bit late because I have spent the last month traveling around India and celebrating three of my student friends who got marriedïżŒïżŒ! I had the opportunity to teach some English and a bit about American southern accents in Navi Mumbai at Speakwell Khargar. What a fun experience!

My good friend Mahendra took language lessons there for the last year to brush up on his English skills prior to my visit. Exemplary hospitality and impressive progressI I visited his class and enjoyed interacting with the fluency student batch.

I also met with some students interested in exploring educational pursuits abroad and families of current graduate students.

I had the opportunity to interact with others concerning potential educational and economic partnerships. There were some interesting ideas put forth and I look forward to seeing how these materialize.

Wishing our customers, student friends, and collaborators a year ahead of development, learning, and adventure.

We provide a full-service concierge service for international students, caring for them throughout their academic journey from their arrival until graduation. Our goal is to help students feel at home anywhere in the world and build relationships that extend beyond graduationïżŒ.
