GPAA Allegheny Chapter

GPAA Allegheny Chapter Paul Lantz and Nellie Sorg founded our club in the spring of 1997 as The Allegheny Chapter of the GPAA.

The first meeting was held at the Greenville Riverside Park in Greenville, PA and consisted of 33 members, 3 of which still participate in our chapter today: Bill Bennett, George Coler, and Jim Graycar. However, the size of the club has grown enormously - having over a hundred people at a monthly meeting is very common. In April of 2009, the club was officially incorporated under section 501(c)(3)

of the Internal Revenue Code. The specific purposes for which the corporate was organized are: β€œTo further the education and skill sets of the membership for the hobby of prospecting in general and gold prospecting specifically – and to extend awareness of this hobby and its benefits to the environment to the general public.”

The club officers are bonded, and the club has a blanket insurance policy to protect landholders and their property from any damages sustained while the membership is prospecting on their property with consent.
