Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish holiday that marks the beginning of the new year. The holiday commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in the Yom Kippur holiday, also known as the Day of Atonement.

During Rosh Hashanah, it is customary to attend synagogue services, recite special liturgy, and enjoy festive meals. Eating symbolic foods, such as apples dipped in honey, is enjoyed evoking a sweet new year.

If you have Jewish neighbors or friends, you can wish them a good new year by saying "Shana Tova" which means "good year" in Hebrew.

This Friday, we’re sharing a fun fact about Madam C.J. Walker, an African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political and social activist. She is recorded as the first female self-made millionaire in America in the Guinness Book of World Records. Walker made her fortune by developing and marketing a line of cosmetics and hair care products for black women through the business she founded, Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company. She became known also for her philanthropy and activism. She made financial donations to numerous organizations such as the NAACP, and became a patron of the arts.
