We have some exciting news to share with you about WERKZY!

In our quest to help small businesses reach their highest potential, we have come across an opportunity to take our skill set and experience with WERKZY and apply it to The Local Moms Network.

WERKZY was founded in the belief that SUCCESS, EMPOWERMENT and IMPACT are yours to define and own and we are excited to join forces with a company that shares and embodies these values. The Local Moms Network is a thriving small business dedicated to giving moms the gift of time while also providing career opportunities for moms across the country. Recently, a Forbes profile showcased how the network is helping moms work while caring for their families, and as America’s mothers are seeing their careers sidetracked during the pandemic, this has never been more important. As moms ourselves, we feel we can have the most impact by taking the lessons we’ve learned from WERKZY—and you— and using them in new roles with The Local Moms Network. Talia will be actively building national partnerships on the West Coast and Asya will be leading the effort for partnerships, events and outreach on the Greenwich Moms platform, partnering with The Local Moms Network CEO, Layla Lisiewski, who will continue to be an integral part of Greenwich Moms and also focus on national growth and strategy. Sophie, our Director of Business Development and Membership, will also be working with The Local Moms Network’s national team on strategy and operations.

As of September 17, we will be wrapping up operations on the current WERKZY website. WERKZY will actively continue making matches for our members until September 17 through our existing databases but will not be taking on any new members after September 3.

We are so grateful for the support over the course of the last year and we thank you for being part of our community. It has truly been an incredible experience to meet and connect with so many talented and passionate people through our WERK. We look forward to staying in touch with you as we transition to our next chapter.

The WERK continues,

Asya and Talia

"Why did I start my own business? I was the Chief Digital Officer of a social-based travel start-up and the agency was moving in the direction of content creation, whereas I wanted to keep focusing on strategy. I also had a one year old at home and needed more flexibility. I knew that going back in-house may not be able to provide the flexibility I needed. So I took the leap and went off on my own as a solopreneur!

I started Townhouse Digital in 2017 as an editorial house for social media and digital marketing with clients that have ranged from start-ups to household names.

Our company culture promotes kindness, honesty, and is drama-free. Our clients become partners and friends--there is mutual respect there. Some of the best parts? The team, coming up with an idea and making it come to life, and meeting incredible business execs who I have the honor of pitching or working with.

Success means health, happiness, and the comfort of knowing home life and business life are in a good place. At work, it means that my team is financially secure and competitive; that we can bring on additional talent if we need extra hands; and that we're profitable with enough in the bank in case the world collapses (again). At home, it means that I can help to provide for my family and that everyone is happy, healthy, and safe.

I don't think running a business is ever comfortable. The moment it feels that way, I find that things get shaken up again. Sometimes it's hard to relax and you have to force yourself to take moments to breathe and step back. Especially when working in an industry that's 24/7, like social media. But it's being able to ride the rollercoaster and find happiness in the bigger picture, smaller moments, and comfort in the discomfort of building, scaling, and leading.

Be honest with your team. Lead with humanity. Smile before you're happy because they need to see and hear you smiling to encourage morale. Get into the weeds with them to show you're capable and willing. Empower people to own projects and decisions. And always, always: Trust Your Gut!”

"Beauty is in my blood! My Grandmother, Catherine Hinds, founded the first accredited esthetics school in the U.S. called the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics in the ’70s. She was a skincare pioneer and the original “girl boss.” A few years ago, I realized that I wasn’t taking proper care of my skin and seeing an esthetician as often as I knew I should, despite being a trained esthetician myself. I came to understand that it boiled down to two main things: time and money, and
I knew I could create a more efficient and effective option for the consumer to help them take better care of their skin, consistently. So, cue Glowbar: the culmination of three generations of estheticians founded on efficiency and effectiveness. My grandmother pioneered skincare in the United States, and I am here to reinvent it, a legacy I am proud to carry on.

I started Glowbar in 2019 as a skincare concept disrupting the spa industry with the first-to-market no-fluff 30-minute facial that is customized, data-driven, solution-oriented, and only $65. Through our algorithm that not only customizes treatments based on the client’s individual skincare needs and but standardizes them, Glowbar creates a professional yet personal skincare experience, eliminating consumer anxiety, overwhelming treatment menus, and the need for expensive add-ons.

It was so thrilling to open the doors of our first Glowbar studio in Tribeca as it marked the beginning of me being able to share an idea and a legacy that is so special to me with the world.

I feel so lucky that I am not only able to work in an industry that I am so
passionate about, but that each and every day I can go into work and know that I am helping people take care of their skin and be the most confident versions of themselves. We get so many messages from clients sharing stories of their skincare struggles and pictures of their skin before and after our treatments, and receiving these types of messages is what keeps me motivated and reminds me how much I love the business that I am growing.

As for advice...ask for help, leverage your network, and, of course, wear your SPF!"

We started Cub & Crew in May 2021. We both had a background in fashion and a love to create, but noticed there wasn’t really a lot of unique and personal clothes for kids. A little passion project between friends turned into a business we wanted to share with the world.

Cub & Crew is sustainable fashion for kids with items that are reloved and reimagined. We carry curated vintage finds, one-of-kind items, and hand drawn and painted illustrations that can be completely personalized and customized.

Our first sale was our most exciting professional moment. We LOVE Creating!!! Every item turns out differently which is so fun! And we love getting special requests and bringing people’s vision to life.

We honestly don’t know where this is heading but we love doing it everyday! Just fulfilling one order at a time and having a ton of fun in the process! We want to just keep sharing Cub & Crew with everyone.

Our advice for anyone looking to start their own businesses is to spend time on the necessary things that may not seem exciting. So even if you don’t love building the website or dealing with finances it’s so important to give that your full attention.

We can’t wait to see what's next!

After spending a lifetime watching loved ones work jobs well below their potential, and after six years of searching for my own career clarity, I crystalized that my purpose was helping others find theirs. I believe that everyone deserves effective guidance to make thoughtful career choices.

I have experienced firsthand the lack of effective support for career exploration. From figuring out how to land my very first job search, I learned everything I could about how to land a great job, leading me to a role at Goldman Sachs. Over the next few years, I was referred to hundreds of professionals who needed career support, I saw patterns in the issues they faced, and I came up with solutions.

I started WOKEN in November 2017 to guide professionals through a unique process of career exploration as well as through a strategic job search via a web-based platform and live coaching. Our career exploration process is a novel, step-by-step process of learning and reflection to clarify your ideal role, industry, and company environment, before your job search begins. We will become the prominent platform for ongoing personal career management so that every professional can clearly visualize their ideal path, efficiently advance towards their goals, and be intentional at every career decision.

I love that I know what work I love. I love motivating and educating individuals to introduce them to what career exploration is and how feasible and impactful it can be. I believe every single individual deserves that sense of clarity and certainty so they can spend time advancing in their path, rather than worrying about which path they should be on.

My general advice when you are looking for your next move: For professionals, gain confidence in your career direction before pursuing any job search. Know that it is possible and very beneficial to gain confidence before making any career choices. Find support to get there. For future entrepreneurs, find a problem you are deeply interested in solving.

Are you revaluating your WERK life?

Last week published a fascinating article discussing how 2020 changed everything regarding how we WERK.

Full article in bio. Longer excerpt below:

"As the postpandemic great reopening unfolds, millions of others are also reassessing their relationship to their jobs. The modern office was created after World War II, on a military model—strict hierarchies, created by men for men, with an assumption that there is a wife to handle duties at home. But after years of gradual change in Silicon Valley and elsewhere, there’s a growing realization that the model is broken. Millions of people have spent the past year re-evaluating their priorities. How much time do they want to spend in an office? Where do they want to live if they can work remotely? Do they want to switch careers? For many, this has become a moment to literally redefine what is work.

The true significance isn’t what we are leaving; it’s what we are going toward. In a surprising phenomenon, people are not just abandoning jobs but switching professions. This is a radical re-assessment of our careers, a great reset in how we think about work"

WERKZY member Lisi Metzger shares her top four tips for growth on Instagram:

1. POST WITH A PLAN, CONSISTENTLY & AUTHENTICALLY:
The types of posts that are savable or shareable that teach, entertain, inspire or motivate you to want to purchase something are the best ones. Always try to remember your why behind your posts. Determining your why will help you create your content. Always try to infuse your own personality authentically into your posts. Whether you post a photo of yourself or put your spin on an idea in your copy, the posts that soar are the ones that are uniquely individual to your brand.

2. ENGAGEMENT IS AS IMPORTANT AS CONTENT CREATION:
Everyone following you deserves some attention and love! They're showing you support by following you and you can pay it forward by supporting them. It's a great idea to like and comment on their posts, weigh in on their stories' polls and even start a convo over DM! Treat your followers like you would your friends. You can't expect to build trust if you don't engage. And if you're creating a community of potential clients/buyers it all starts with trust. Remember to be on Instagram engaging 15 min before and 15 min after your post is published.

3. PLAN AHEAD:
Business owners and entrepreneurs are extremely busy, to say the least. Posting on social media is often overwhelming and stressful. Creating a plan for your social media posts will give you structure. Think about hiring a social media manager to take the burden off. If outsourcing the work is not possible, grab a planner and use that calendar to decide what days you'll commit to posting. Even if it starts out as once a week, you can always add days to your plan. Reels are being favored right now so if you can commit to creating one once a week, it will ultimately bring you the most reward.

4. HAVE FUN!:
Try to remember to have fun, don't take yourself too seriously and that social media's SOCIAL. Try not to stress out over follower counts, reels views or the number of likes you get on a post. If your post flops, use that data to help you create more effective, father reaching content in the future.
