Is work a prison… or an act of worship?
“Spirituality at work?”
When this question was raised in our recent dialogue with Denise Cumella of The Boss Books, you could almost feel the hesitation in the (virtual) room.
What does spirituality have to do with deadlines, budgets, sales targets, or machinery?
And yet… how can we ignore the fact that work occupies most of our waking lives?
If so many people describe their workplace as toxic, exhausting, or something to simply endure — isn’t that a signal that something deeper needs rethinking?
Denise offers a radically hopeful perspective:
What if work, when performed in a spirit of service, becomes an act of worship?
Not something separate from life’s meaning — but an expression of it.
In her conversation, we explored:
🔹 Why unity is more important than being right
🔹 How language can transform workplace culture
🔹 What it means to become a “hunter of virtues”
🔹 Why excellence should elevate the community — not diminish others
🔹 And how even in times of fragmentation, we can consciously align with constructive forces
Perhaps the most powerful idea was this:
We are all writing a collective human story.
What part do you want to play?
Work does not have to be a cage.
It can be a laboratory for character, a platform for contribution, and a space where spirituality becomes love in action.
If you care about ethical leadership, meaningful organizations, and building cultures grounded in dignity and unity — this article is for you.
