Few people have seen the inside of federal biocontainment and global life sciences the way Tim Burke has.

He supported indoor air quality response for New York City Transit following the 9/11 attacks, oversaw anthrax decontamination for the US Postal Service in NYC, and went on to lead a $150M federal biocontainment portfolio as branch chief for laboratory operations within the US Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology Directorate. He’s been in the room where some of the hardest science infrastructure decisions in the US government get made.

And for over a decade, he trusted Merrick to help make them.

Before he ever joined our team, Tim was our client. While at the US Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology Office of National Laboratories, he saw firsthand how Merrick shows up on the most complex, highest-consequence projects in the world. Then, he chose to be a part of Merrick.

Now back stateside after five years building Merrick’s UK and European life sciences presence, Tim is our director of strategic partnerships with a perspective few have. He connects the world’s federal science, global biopharma, and leading research institutions in ways that only someone who has lived on both sides of the table can.

Welcome back to the States, Tim! We’re beyond proud to have you on the team.

In Florida, gopher tortoises are a threatened keystone species, commonly encountered on transportation, development, space ports, and restoration projects across the state. Relocating them safely and legally requires an Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent, and our team just added that capability. 🐢

Lauren Peters, our environmental scientist on our transportation team, has renewed her certification through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission (FWC). We can now conduct 100% burrow surveys, trapping, and tortoise relocation in-house, keeping your project compliant and on schedule.

Lauren has been advocating for gopher tortoises since college, when she helped create Florida State University’s gopher tortoise conservation internship program that continues to this day. This isn’t just a credential. It’s a career of caring.

What does 30 years of water and wastewater experience look like? Meet Stacey Lamer. 💧

Stacey joins Merrick’s water practice team in Idaho as our industrial/municipal water and wastewater director, bringing three decades of environmental compliance, design, construction, and operations experience with municipal and industrial entities throughout the US.

Her credentials speak for themselves: licensed professional engineer in four states, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), and an American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE). But ask her what really drives her and the answer is always the same: clean water and sustainable use.

She started her career as a Class IV wastewater treatment plant operator while earning her chemical engineering degree, and the world of water has had her ever since.

The Idaho office is fired up, and Stacey is exactly the kind of leader to match that energy. Welcome to the team, Stacey! 🥳

Spoiler: They came back. ☺️

We love seeing familiar faces back in our intern program, and there’s nothing better than knowing they made the choice to return.

Thanks for choosing Merrick once again. Our team wouldn’t be the same without you. Welcome back!

PS - Rahul, we love the Merrick tumblers too.

Progressive design-build (PDB) is here, and it’s continuing to change how government projects are built.

Historically, government projects have cost more and taken longer than comparable commercial builds. Today, world events are demanding faster, more affordable infrastructure, and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) now allows PDB for military construction for the first time.

PDB looks different on every project, but the foundation is always the same: one team, one goal, from the very beginning.

See below to take a deeper dive on PDB and what to know if you’re considering PDB on your next project.

What an incredible time opening our doors at our Boise, Idaho office! 🌊 Infrastructure work like water systems and whitewater projects only succeeds when it’s built alongside the people it serves, and this open house was a powerful reminder of that.

It was wonderful to connect with the community and share the work our teams do here every day. Thank you, Boise! This is why we do what we do.

Solving. Growing. Living. That’s the kind of team we’ve built at Merrick.

Meet Jake Campabello, survey party chief on Merrick’s geomatics team. Jake is a certified Part 107 drone pilot specializing in drone mapping, GPS, 3D scanning, and mobile lidar, integrating multi-source datasets into precise digital deliverables across land boundary surveys, utility mapping, and large-scale facility surveys.

His work has taken him all over, from Colorado to Puerto Rico, where the Geospatial Research and Development (GeoRAD) program brought him face-to-face with one of his favorite projects so far. There, Jake and his team scanned the interior and exterior of the Dos Bocas hydroelectric dam, merging multiple datasets into a comprehensive 3D model of the entire facility.

Currently working towards his Professional Land Surveyor license, Jake’s trajectory is as impressive as the datasets he creates. We’re proud to have Jake on the Merrick team!

We have officially wrapped up another incredible year of our peer mentoring program! 🥳 This year’s cohort brought together 50 employee owners from 12 locations across the US. From introducing a dynamic, new, roundtable guest panel format to building invaluable cross-department connections, it’s been a phenomenal year of growth and learning.

“The peer mentoring program is a true gem of our culture. Year after year, the most common feedback we receive is how much participants enjoy learning from and getting to know other peer professionals,” says program chair, Julian Battle.

Congratulations to all of our 2026 mentors and mentees!
