This oneโs for you, Mom.
So said CarePoint Emergency Medicine Physician Ashley Crum as she trained for, participated in, and completed the 130th Boston Marathon in late April.
Her mom, Carol, a lifelong runner, two-time Boston Marathon finisher, and retired ER nurse, is currently battling Alzheimerโs disease. Though the mom was unable to make the long trip from Nibley, Utah, to Boston to watch the daughter vanquish the 26.2-mile course, Carol was certainly there in spirit.
She was there on screen, too. As Dr. Crum crossed the finish line on Boylston Street, she pulled out her phone to FaceTime her mom 2,400 miles away, sharing the triumphant moment with the woman who means so much to her and so many others.
In fact, running alongside Dr. Crum the whole way was Mandi McBride, a nurse whom Carol had mentored and introduced to running years ago. Dr. Crumโs husband, Dax, also ran the race.
Together, the trio wore custom shirts to honor the woman who inspired their journeys. The shirts read: โKeep Memories Alive - Running for Carol.โ
Dr. Crum joined CarePoint in 2017. She practices in the Brigham City Community Hospital, Cache Valley Hospital, and Ogden Regional Medical Center ERs.
โIt was the coolest thing Iโve ever done,โ Dr. Crum said of her Boston Marathon experience. โNo matter what youโre doing it for, the energy is amazing โ but this was really special.โ
Amazing job, Dr. Crum! ๐
