Join us this Sunday, June 14, for a special Smuggler Sunday featuring Smuggler Wine Club member Jack Gates! Jack will be onsite signing copies of his beautiful book, Spring Wildflowers of Eastern Woodlands: Photos, Fact, and Folklore.

Drawing from 36 years of spring hikes, Jack's book showcases 95 woodland wildflower species through stunning photography, fascinating folklore, historical medicinal uses, and the stories behind these fleeting blooms. It's a heartfelt celebration of the natural beauty found right here in the eastern woodlands.

Books will be available for purchase in the tasting room, and Jack will be happy to personalize your copy.

Smuggler Society members can sip on the specialty flight of 2013 vs 2014 Cabernet Franc and Merlot, meet a fellow wine club member, and discover the wonder hidden beneath the forest canopy. We also invite those interested in becoming members to join us to enjoy our current vintage wines.

Our 2025 Meritage has been blended!

Over the past several months, individual lots of our red wines harvested in 2025 have quietly rested in barrel, completing malolactic fermentation and developing their own distinct character.

Recently, our cellar team gathered to taste, evaluate, and rank each lot, searching for the balance, structure, and harmony that will define the 2025 Meritage.

With the blend now selected, those individual barrels have been brought together into a single wine and returned to French oak barrels, where it will continue its journey through the months ahead.

Any guesses on the exact blend of our 2025 Meritage?

A new vintage is beginning to leave its mark.

As our 2025 red wines complete malolactic fermentation and blending draws to a close, our Assistant Winemaker Jordan Demain is putting a finishing touch on the barrels that will be home to these wines for the next chapter of their journey.

While we use a 100% natural pigment made from red wine and grape extracts to stain our barrels today, the tradition began centuries ago when cellar teams brushed wine onto barrels as a way of identifying the vintages and blends.

These barrels will soon be filled and returned to the cellar, where the wines will continue their slow transformation through aging before one day finding their way to your glass 🍷

Looking for a weekend photo opportunity? 🌼🍷

Our mustard cover crop is in full bloom, transforming part of the vineyard into a sea of yellow just beyond the tasting room. It’s one of the most colorful moments of the season and a view that won’t last forever.

Grab a glass of wine, bring a friend, and enjoy the bloom while it’s here. Between the mustard flowers, vineyard views, and Blue Ridge backdrop, there’s no shortage of places to slow down and take it all in.

📍 Open Wednesday-Monday 11am-5pm (last pour: 4:30pm)

🌿 Bloom is giving way to fruit set🍇

Just a few weeks ago, these clusters were covered in tiny flower caps. As they fell away, the vineyard carried a faint, sweet fragrance, often compared to honeysuckle blossoms, that signals one of the most important moments of the growing season.

Now, in their place, tiny grapes are beginning to form. This stage, known as fruit set, follows flowering and marks the beginning of this year’s crop. Each successfully pollinated flower has the potential to become a grape, and the clusters are starting to take on the shape they’ll carry through the summer months.

There’s still a long road between now and harvest, but after a spring that reminded us how quickly conditions can change, it’s encouraging to see the vines continue their steady progression toward another vintage.

We’ll be pouring alongside an incredible lineup of fellow Virginia wineries for an afternoon of wine tastings, live music, food, and vineyard views. One of the things we love most about Virginia wine is the collaborative spirit behind it, and we’re honored to be part of the very first year of this event.

If you’ll be there, be sure to stop by our table, say hello, and raise a glass with us 🍷
