---------------------------------------------
Jason and Lori Clark, Co-Owners of BIN112 in historic downtown Greer, have announced the sale of 112 Trade Street in Greer and the closing of BIN112 after 10 successful years. Jeff Gossett has purchased the property and will soon announce its transformation into Select Restaurant.

“We would like to thank all of our devoted customers, friends and family for your continuous support over the last 10 years,” said Jason Clark, Chef and Co-owner of BIN112. “We are so proud of the strides our team has made during this time and of the awe-inspiring amount of blood, sweat and tears they have dedicated to the growth and success of BIN112. After our best year ever, we are closing and are excited that something new and fresh will take our place.”

“Our team has worked hard to bring an incredible dining experience to each and every one of our customers, both repeat and one time, and we hope you will remember us fondly,” said Lori Clark, Co-Owner of BIN112. “BIN112 has been privileged to be a part of so many special life occasions, and to have nurtured so much culinary talent in the Upstate food community. BIN112 has received many honors and it has many fans. We are honored to have our footprint in the growth of historic downtown Greer.”

Mayor Rick Danner of the City of Greer offered his thanks to BIN112 for its contributions to Greer.

“For the past 10 years Lori and Jason Clark have poured their heart and soul into BIN 112 creating not only an awarding winning restaurant but a destination in downtown Greer,” Mayor Danner said. “Jason’s culinary mastery and Lori’s easy, friendly front of house manner have created a fine dining experience unrivalled in the Upstate for which the food scene in Greer will forever be indebted. From celebratory events to romantic dinners, the patrons of BIN 112 knew every visit would be special. I know I speak for the Greer community when I say THANKS, to Jason and Lori. The BIN will be missed!”

Stomping Grounds full of perks

There’s coffee of course, and plenty of food options, but the biggest perk of Stomping Grounds Coffee House and Wine Bar is the ability to sit a while and soak in all that is good about Greer.

From day one, proprietor Lisa Garland has wanted that for her shop.

“I wanted to have a place where people felt comfortable,” she said. “That’s the main objective. I think I’ve been successful with that because that’s the feedback I get.”

Stomping Grounds, 208 Trade St., is open seven days a week and offers a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu as well as specialty coffees, beer, wine, pastries, and ice cream. Whether entering through the front or back entrance, Garland wants customers to linger.

“People feel guilty because they’ve spent so much time here, but that’s the point. That’s what we’re here for, for you to get comfy and spend all the time you need here,” she said.

Garland is happy knowing a network of relationships exist because of her coffee shop.

“Seeing that literal friendships are being built here because we exist is probably the biggest satisfaction of being open,” Garland said. She also credits her great staff for creating the inviting atmosphere that people associate with Stomping Grounds. Husband Grey Garland, chief dishwasher and head of security, works side-by-side with her as well.

The coffee shop opened in 2012 at the height of the recession. The sixth anniversary of Stomping Grounds passed without fanfare in January. Garland didn’t miss it, she just decided that the next big milestone celebration should be for their 10th anniversary.

“I took a big gamble on this town because 50 percent of all the businesses were closed up and abandoned then,” she said. “I joined a core group of pioneers in downtown Greer and Greer has not let me down. I hope Greer continues to grow in a positive way.”

Live music, including open mic nights, are part of the culture of the shop. Garland, who loves all genres, said that hearing live music while she works is also one of the perks.

Garland is heavily involved with events in Greer and one of her best-selling items is a result of her manning a booth at the Greater Greer Chamber’s Family Fest. She sold Greek gyros strictly for the event, but later added it to the menu because of so many requests for it.

The Cliff Panini is also a big seller. The sandwich is named for former Greer resident and Stomping Grounds regular Cliff Harpst, a WWII veteran who claimed the shop as his living room. He recently moved near family in Ohio.

“We still feel the absence of Cliff on a daily basis,” Garland said. “Every once in a while I still expect him to come around the corner and grab his mug.”

Regular and special events happen nightly at Stomping Grounds. Follow them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, or sign up for the newsletter at stompinggroundsgreer.com for more information.

Play your edge at Mel-O-Yoga

By Krista Gibson

Melanie Boulos encourages participants in her classes to play their edge. In this way, they can use yoga to build strength, flexibility, and balance into their fitness routine.
Boulos owns and operates Mel-O-Yoga at 803B W. Poinsett Street in Greer, which opened May 1 of last year. The studio offers 17 classes per week, including a free class open to the public every Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
“There wasn’t any yoga in Greer when we opened,” Boulos said. “A lot of people’s doctors are telling them they should try yoga. It makes me feel better physically, mentally, emotionally. I do feel there is a real benefit to it.”
Mel-O-Yoga offers classes for beginners and advanced students. All levels can participate. Props including bolsters, blocks, straps, blankets, and balls are available to aid participants. The first class is free and then $10 per class after that. New clients can join for 30 days for $40 and try all of the different classes to see where they fit.
Boulos grew up in Greer but work took her out of the area until 1995, when she returned. A yoga place opened up near her home and she practiced there for four years. By the time the owner left that business, Boulos decided to pursue yoga practice as a teacher. She got certified through the Asheville Yoga Center and started teaching classes in her home.
“This space became available last spring and it just seemed like the time to make the move, bring it here and make a step up,” Boulos said. Her husband’s family has owned the business center on Poinsett Street for over 50 years.
“For me, yoga is really good fit,” she said. “I’m not a runner. I don’t lift weights. I stay healthy in the yoga world.”
There are seven teachers, including Boulos, that teach beginner classes through warm power flow. Private sessions are available. The studio also offers workshops. A back care workshop is being offered on Feb 24 for $25. It will focus on learning to strengthen and stretch the back.
A free seminar, Mindful Eating and Movement, is available on March 11. The opportunity to join a six-week program about plant-based eating with yoga classes included will follow. In April, Mel-O- Yoga will offer a 108 Sun Salutations class, a fiery practice to denote the changing of the seasons, Boulos said.
Yoga enthusiasts may use the Mind Body application for smart phones to sign up for classes. For more information about the studio and instructors, visit mel-o-yoga.com or connect through Facebook and Instagram. Office hours are Tuesdays, 11-11:30 a.m.; Wednesdays 11-11:30 a.m. and 5:-5:30 p.m.; and Thursdays 11-11:30 a.m. and 6-6:30 p.m.
