Have you ever used a curb cut?
Of course you have.

Have you ever walked through an automatic door, watched a video with captions, dictated a text message or pushed a stroller up a ramp?

Then accessibility has already improved your life.

The biggest misconception about accessibility is that it only benefits a small group of people.

The truth?

Many of the conveniences we use every day began as solutions for those of us living with disabilities.

-Curb cuts became easier routes for strollers, bikes, wheelchairs and delivery.Ramps allow everyone to access, makes moving and delivering goods easier. Automatic doors became convenient for everyone carrying groceries, luggage or children. Closed captioning became useful in airports, gyms, restaurants and quiet offic. Voice assistants like Alexa and Google make hands-free living easier for millions . Text-to-speech helps people read while walking, exercising or multitasking Speech-to-text and predictive text has changed how we communicate every ay. Lever door handles are easier for children, older adults, people with arthritis and anyone whose hands are ful. Automatic faucets and soap dispensers improve hygiene while making public spaces more accessible.
-Electric toothbrushes, originally for limited dexterity, now widely used for better oral care.

Accessibility has never been about creating something special for a few people.
It’s about designing a world that works better for everyone.

The best accessibility is so useful that people stop thinking of it as accessibility.
It simply becomes good design.

Big news: NovaWorks Consulting is officially open for business!

I’m Ashley, the founder, and I want to take a second to introduce myself properly since this page is still pretty new.

I have a master’s in organizational psychology and have spent years working at the intersection of inclusion, accessibility, and human behavior. I’m also legally blind, which means I don’t just study equity and inclusion from a textbook. I live it every single day. That perspective shapes everything I do with NovaWorks.

I started this because I’ve watched organizations genuinely want to do better around inclusion and equity and not know where to start. Or they start, and it doesn’t stick. I get that. DEI can feel overwhelming when you’re also trying to run an organization.
So here’s how I’m kicking things off.
