Three questions everyone in your organization must be able to answer:

What are we doing? Why are we doing it? Where do I fit in?

If we were certain of the outcome it wouldn’t take courage.

"This week, I was privileged to coach a new leader with relatively little leadership background. I did not want to smother him with decades of my experiences, thousands of ideas, and oodles of suggestions. So, I suggested three simple things:

First, being a leader is less what you know and do, but about how you help others know and do what they need for their success. Use your power to empower others and your strengths to strengthen others.

Second, frequently ask the question, “what do you think?” to engage others. Listen to others so that when you make final decisions, they feel like they have been heard.

Third, recognize and accept your personal leadership style. Be comfortable with yourself as you discover your unique way to lead based on your values, passions, and strengths that will show up in how you set direction, get things done, and treat others."

What other simple tidbits might you suggest to the new leader without smothering him?

10 Critical Behaviors That Improve Resiliency

People who are more resilient are less likely to give up when they experience failure. They are willing to take more risks to succeed. They are more persistent and optimistic about their chances of success. They generally work with more energy and passion and are more interested in finding new innovative approaches. They are also more likely to volunteer and sign up for a difficult assignment. They have higher levels of personal engagement, along with more confidence. Every organization wants more resilient employees.

One of the first principles in Change Adoption: addressing the question of WHY change so as to Create a Shared Need for Change

This week I was talking to a friend about how their business model has adapted significantly during difficult times. One of the main obstacles they could see on the horizon was how colleagues were reacting to the thought of coming back into the office to work.

Leaders: change starts with YOU

---------------------------------------------
If you are WAITING for HR to fix things for you....

It WON'T get fixed. There's a good reason.

As a leader, YOU need to talk to your own people.

YOU need to walk the talk... you actually do.

You DON'T get to outsource EMOTIONS.

You DON'T get to outsource ACCOUNTABILITY.

You DON'T get to outsource COURAGE.

You are the person responsible for living the VALUES, no one else.

And a great HR leader will make this journey possible, side by side, every step of the way.

Are we experiencing an interrupted society (implies normal services will be return to normal as soon as possible) or a disrupted one (we are shaken and who knows what the new normal will be)?

Is the Covid-19 pandemic a "Black Swan" event (highly impactful; very difficult to predict) or a "Black Elephant" event (highly impactful; very predictable but ignored and not discussed - like an elephant in the room)

We have an opportunity to CHOOSE to CHANGE.

How can we best prepare and support people in building their capacity to take on the "Herd of Black Elephants" heading our way?

“Owing to past neglect, in the face of the plainest warnings, we have entered upon a period of danger.  The era of procrastination, of half measures, of soothing and baffling expedients of del…
