🌊 The University of Southern Mississippi was proud to join Mississippi’s delegation at Sea-Air-Space 2026 in National Harbor, Maryland.

Dr. Brian Cuevas and Natalie Guess represented Southern Miss and its Gulf Blue® Initiative alongside partners from across the state during the Navy League’s premier maritime exposition.

The week created opportunities for conversations around maritime innovation, shipbuilding, autonomy, and the growing role of the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the future of the blue economy.

It was also great to connect with several Navigator alumni and partners throughout the event.

🌊 Great turnout for our April Gulf Blue® Networking event last week at the Gulf & Ship Island Building.

Students, founders, industry partners, and community members came together for an evening of connection and conversation, with guest speaker Steve Sempier with the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium sharing insights on coastal resilience.

🌊 Innovation on the water along the Mississippi Gulf Coast 🦪

Gulf Blue® and USM’s Thad Cochran Marine Aquaculture Center (TCMAC) recently visited Oak Island Oyster Company to see their aquaculture work in action.

From hatchery operations to growout systems on the water, the visit highlighted how research and industry are working together to support scalable oyster production along the coast.

It’s a great example of how ideas are tested and refined right here on the .
