Happy New Year, Gustavus!
Along with the best wishes for 2022, we would like to share the great news.
Recently US Government announced awards for the USDA Community Connect Grant that local Gustavus Internet Service Provider -Byte Networking LLC ( DBA Fibre Alaska) applied in December 2020. We were one of 72 applicants for this grant, one of 23 lucky ones nationwide that received the award from the US Government, and one of 2 awardees in our Great State of Alaska!
We sincerely appreciate the Community Connect program's recognition of Gustavus's economic and strategic importance. Fibre Alaska’s willingness to invest in rural Gustavus (when other companies were unable or unwilling to do so) was recognized and supported.
With the help of the USDA, we will be able to expedite the project, improve the middle mile and bring faster data speeds that will improve the everyday life of residents and business owners.
We want to express our sincere thanks to many of you who helped make this happen; we are happy that our hard work and efforts paid off.
Fibre Alaska will deploy a fiber-to-the-premises network to connect homes and businesses throughout the town. Gustavus proudly will be the first Community to have the most advanced fiber-optic local access network in Alaska.
Byte Networking dba Fibre Alaska- Community Connect application, submitted in December 2020, was strengthened by a flood of support from residents, business owners, and community leaders. We congratulate and thank everyone in Gustavus for making this a success!
Fibre Alaska is grateful for the support our Community Connects grant application received from the Denali Commission, our State of Alaska Representative Sara Hannan, Senator Jessie Kiel, Southeast Conference, City of Gustavus Council, other State agencies, and local organizations and community leaders for their support.
We couldn't have done it without the Community's support and are thrilled to be moving to the next phase of the project.
Our teams can't wait to get started. When the project is completed (we expect to make that reality within appx two years), everybody connected to Fibre Alaska Network would be able to work from home, watch entertainment, and study at ease.
We will keep you informed about the project's progress as the construction window opens in the summer.
We want to encourage residents and businesses to apply to be part of the network. The grant we received will cover the costs of installation of fiber optic lines, the equipment cost to residents, and the business owner's premises included in the grant area. We will also be able to provide a free fast internet service to many critical facilities in Gustavus for 2 years!
This grant is a huge opportunity for everyone in Gustavus, and we strongly encourage you to please take advantage of it!
