Colin Powell once said, “Don’t let your ego get too close to your position, so that if your position gets shot down, your ego doesn’t go with it.”

This quote reminds me of what my mentor Al Petitpas taught me about having “just the right amount of ego.” Here’s my two cents on ego agility and how it is vital to becoming BullyProof.

This , I would like to thank all the teachers I have had in my years of education to become a leadership psychologist, especially the ones who helped me gain hands-on experience with the work I do today.

Getting students actively involved and engaged with their education is key to helping them learn. I learned to use the same philosophy in my work in advising and leadership coaching. One of the first teachers who comes to mind when I think about involvement is Professor Al Petitpas, who has sparked hundreds of memories for me. He is a teacher among teachers.

Because of teachers like Al, I hope that I can be the kind of teacher to get people involved in making a difference in their workplaces.

As I look back to where I was this time last year – getting my book ready for publication – I find myself thinking about the many eye-opening conversations that I had with the people I interviewed for my work. People who make the world and workplaces more meaningful and productive.

Something that stood out in our research for BullyProof is the fact that not all aspects of workplace bullying are conscious or even visible. My dear friend and fellow leadership advisor Cathy shared valuable insights on the unconscious biases that contribute to invisible bullying toward those who do not fit the “traditional” image of a leader. The founder of both LeaderMom and Whole Leader, Cathy is an inspiration to me and how I use my work to uplift alpha women in the workplace.
