Canada is recalling certain brands of Hand Sanitizer solutions that are found to include cancer causing ingredients.

Health Canada is advising Canadians that certain hand sanitizers are being recalled from the market because they contain industrial-grade ethanol that has not been authorized for use in hand sanitizers in Canada.

It is estimated that approximately 48 million people in the U.S. become sick from a domestically acquired foodborne illness every year. Of these, 128,000 are hospitalized and 3,000 die. The economic impact of foodborne illness has been estimated at $152 billion annually for direct medical care and loss of quality of life.

To address this trend, our Policy Statement on Uniform and Integrated Food Safety System Adoption recommends adoption of the most up-to-date food code, consistent reporting of data, using an integrated food safety system, and training food service personnel.

Child care providers have been operating with cleaning protocols throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. As we continue to learn more about the new Omicron variant, providers may be paying extra attention to cleaning this time of year. A reminder from Oregon Health Authority about how to disinfect safely:

☑️ Don't just spray and wipe. Every has a "contact time" for how long it must stay glistening wet on a surface to effectively kill germs.

☑️ Read your product's label.

☑️ Disinfectants are best saved for high-touch surfaces, such as doorknobs, light switches, and bathroom surfaces.

REMINDER: The deadline to apply for the Child Care Stabilization Grant is December 31, 2021.

Providers must complete a brief application online and meet the eligibility criteria to be considered for a grant. Providers whose applications are approved will receive an award based on the child care type.
