🤔 Remember how you could spot a scam by the bad spelling and clunky grammar? You can't anymore. 🚨

Google has sued a cybercrime group it says used its Gemini AI to mass-produce scam texts and fake websites, alleging the group generated large volumes of fraudulent pages over several months, pretending to be banks, government offices, and well-known stores. AI lets a tiny crew pump out polished fakes faster than any team of people could. These fakes look clean and mimic real companies right down to the logo.

What still works is looking at what the message wants you to do. Anything rushing you to click a link, log in, or move money should make you stop, no matter how legit it looks. ⚠️ DON'T TAP THE LINK. Go straight to the company's app or website yourself and check there.

🚨 New cybersecurity reality: Seeing is no longer believing. 🚨

Deepfake technology is advancing rapidly. There have been cases where employees joined video meetings with what appeared to be trusted executives and co-workers, only to learn later that the faces and voices were fake. The result? Significant financial losses.

The next time someone asks you to:
• Wire money
• Change payment information
• Share credentials
• Grant access to systems
Don't rely solely on what you see and hear on a video call.

Verify the request through a separate channel. Call a known number. Send a direct message. Ask a question only that person could answer. Yes, it can feel awkward to question a request from your boss. But the best leaders encourage verification because they understand the risks.

Your team connects to wifi at hotels, airports, and cafes without thinking about it. When that network has no password, or a password posted on the wall for everyone, the traffic between their laptop and the network isn't private.

DO THIS:
▶️ Use a VPN on any device that connects to public wifi. Most password managers and security suites include one, or your IT provider can set it up.
▶️ Better yet, skip public wifi for anything sensitive and use your phone's hotspot instead. A mobile connection is much harder to tamper with.
▶️ Turn off "auto-connect to open networks" on company phones and laptops, so devices don't join random hotspots on their own.
Most websites encrypt their own traffic now, so this is less risky than it used to be, but a VPN protects everything on the device, so it's worth setting up.

Microsoft Is Retiring SMS & Voice MFA: What Your Business Needs to Know

Beginning February 1, 2027, Microsoft-provided SMS and voice authentication for Microsoft Entra ID will be retired and replaced by passkeys as the preferred sign-in method.

KEY DATES
✅ Before Sept. 1, 2026: Start transitioning users to passkeys
✅ Sept. 1, 2026: Users relying on SMS or voice MFA will begin receiving prompts to register a passkey
✅ Feb. 1, 2027: Microsoft stops supporting SMS and voice authentication
✅ After Feb. 1, 2027: Users without a registered passkey may be unable to sign in

Why the change? SMS and phone-based authentication are increasingly vulnerable to Phishing attacks, SIM-swapping, Social engineering and Replay attacks. Passkeys provide a stronger, phishing-resistant authentication experience while making sign-ins easier for users.

What should organizations do now?
🔍 Identify users currently using SMS or voice MFA
🔑 Enable and begin registering passkeys
📢 Communicate the upcoming change to employees
✅ Complete the migration before February 2027 to avoid disruption

If your organization still relies on SMS or phone-call MFA, now is the time to start planning. TeleCom Business Solutions can review your Entra ID authentication settings now and determine how many users are affected. Moving users to passkeys before Microsoft's deadlines will give you more control over the transition and help avoid unexpected sign-in issues.

⚠️ Found a USB Drive? Don't Plug It In.

The second you plug in a suspicious USB drive, it can load malware or even act like a keyboard and type out commands on its own, faster than you could.

DO THIS:
▶️ If you didn't buy it, don't trust it. A USB drive you found goes in the trash, not into your laptop.
▶️ Ask your IT provider to block USB drives on the computers that don't need them, or to only allow ones you've approved.
▶️ Share files through the cloud instead of passing memory sticks around, so nobody's in the habit of plugging in whatever's lying about.
And if you do keep sensitive files on USB drives, use encrypted ones, so a drive going missing doesn't turn into a data breach.
