π Hurricane season started June 1. For older adults and people with disabilities, preparation isn't optional β it's the difference between safe and dangerous.
The window people miss: before a storm is named. Once there's a watch or warning, you're competing with millions of others for water, gas, and time.
Here's the short version of what to do now:
π
This month:
βοΈ Look up your evacuation zone: floridadisaster.org/knowyourzone
βοΈ Register with your county's Special Needs Registry β this gets your loved one transportation help and access to a medically equipped shelter
βοΈ Write down all medications (dosages, prescribers, pharmacies) and keep the list in a waterproof bag
βοΈ Talk to your caregiver about the storm plan before a storm arrives
π¬οΈ When a storm is 7 days out:
βοΈ Fill prescriptions early
βοΈ Start building your supply kit (1 gallon water/person/day for 7 days)
βοΈ Bring in outdoor furniture and prepare the home
β° 48 hours out:
βοΈ If your zone is called β evacuate. Don't wait.
βοΈ If staying: medications accessible, phone charged, shutters up, family plan confirmed
