It seems as if all the talk this month was about “Dry January.” As the month comes to an end here are a few thoughts…

Moderation is key when it comes to drinking alcohol. While "Dry January" is a popular way for people to take a break from alcohol and reset their drinking habits, it may not be the best fit for everyone.

Here are some alternative methods of drinking in moderation:

1. Set a limit for yourself. Decide on a certain number of drinks you’ll consume per week or month, and stick to it. You can also set a limit for each occasion, such as only allowing yourself two drinks at a social event.

2. Alternate alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic ones. For every alcoholic drink, make sure also to have a non-alcoholic beverage, such as water or a non-alcoholic cocktail. This helps slow down your drinking pace and reduce the overall amount of alcohol you consume.

3. Try a "mindful drinking" approach. Mindfulness involves being fully present and aware of each sip, rather than mindlessly drinking. By paying attention to the taste, smell, and effects of the alcohol, you may be less inclined to overindulge.

4. Experiment with different types of alcohol. Not all alcohol is created equal. Some beverages, such as wine and beer, have a lower alcohol content than others, such as spirits. By choosing lower alcohol content options, you can still enjoy a drink without consuming as much alcohol.

5. Seek professional help. If you feel like you may have a problem with alcohol, seeking professional help is always an option. There are a variety of resources available, such as counseling and support groups, that can help you learn how to drink in moderation.

Ultimately, drinking in moderation is about finding a balance that works for you. It's important to be mindful of your limits. To be aware of the effects that alcohol has on your body and mind. By trying different methods and being open to new approaches, you can find a way to enjoy alcohol without overindulging.

We all know that wine is a beloved beverage enjoyed by many around the world. It's always evolving with new trends and developments. As we head into 2023, there are several key trends that wine enthusiasts can look forward to.

First, natural and organic wines are becoming increasingly popular. These wines are made using minimal intervention, with minimal use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the vineyard, and without the addition of synthetic additives during the winemaking process. Many wine drinkers are looking for more natural, sustainable options and natural and organic wines are a great choice for those who are looking for a more authentic wine experience.

Another trend that is expected to gain momentum in 2023 is the rise of "skin contact" wines. These wines are made by leaving the grape juice in contact with the grape skins for a longer period, which can add more complex flavor profiles and a unique tannin structure to the wine. This trend is particularly popular with white wines, which are typically not aged on the skins before fermentation.

In terms of regions, we can expect to see a continued focus on wines from emerging regions. For example, the wines of countries like Greece, Croatia, and Slovenia are becoming more well-known and sought-after by wine lovers. Additionally, regions that have historically been known for producing a specific type of wine will begin to expand and try new varietals.

Finally, the popularity of sparkling wines is expected to continue to grow in 2023. Sparkling wines like Champagne and Prosecco are perfect for celebrations and special occasions. They are also a great option for those looking for a refreshing and versatile wine.

Wine trends in 2023 will see a rise in natural and organic wines, skin contact wines, wines from emerging regions, and sparkling wines. Votto Vines is always evolving, and it will be exciting to see what new developments and trends will emerge in the coming year.

Dear Wine Lovers,

The new year approaches, is the perfect time to set some goals and resolutions for the year ahead. Here are three resolution ideas for wine drinkers:

Expand your wine knowledge: Whether you're a beginner or an experienced wine drinker, there is always more to learn. Consider taking a wine course or simply trying new varietals and regions to broaden your understanding of the world of wine.

Host a wine-tasting party: Invite some friends over and taste a selection of wines from different regions or grape varietals. Not only is this a fun social activity, but it's also a great way to learn about and compare different wines.

Support local winemakers: Many small, independent winemakers rely on direct-to-consumer sales to support their businesses. Consider seeking out and supporting local winemakers in your area by purchasing their wines or visiting their tasting rooms.

We hope these resolution ideas inspire you to make the most of your love for wine in the new year. Cheers to a happy and healthy 2023!
