Received a review on Tux - The Adventure Begins
Tux: The Adventure Begins (Guardians of the Earth Book 1) by Donika Beka and J.J. McKeever is a fantasy about how the Chigakwa and Kishtunhes help humanity from destroying itself. On his way home from visiting his mother, Julian Larsen’s car is forced off the road, he is kidnapped, and his car is pushed into the lake with his Huskita puppy, Tuxedo (Tux), inside a crate. Two beavers and a red fox rescue Tux from drowning. Not knowing what else to do, the red fox, Machias, decides to take Tux to Maheeni, who rules over the Chigakwa. Maheeni agrees to help Tux find Julian, and she assigns Ezekiel (E), a Kishtunhe, and an owl named Huckleberry to help Tux and Machias investigate Julian’s disappearance. What are Chigakwas and Kishtunhes? Do they find Julian? Why was Julian kidnapped and Tux left to drown?
Both of these authors have done an excellent job with character development. Whether the character is human or an animal, like a fox, dog, wolf, elephant, penguin, owl, etc., they are adequately described and have a role appropriate for their species. The authors provide beautiful descriptions of the mountain with magnificent trees and beautiful wildflowers, as well as the rainbow colors found in the caverns. I could easily visualize each event as it occurred in the plot. Throughout the narrative, unfamiliar words, like Chigakwa and Kishtunhe, are explained for easy understanding. I found the Native American history in the book interesting. One of the lessons young readers will learn is the importance of first impressions. The ending of this book entices the reader to read the next one in the series, while at the same time, it lets you know this aspect of the adventure is finished, and the next book will be a different adventure.
This book has a well-written, fast-paced, and action-packed plot that kept me interested throughout my reading. I felt sorry for the sloths being continually teased for being slow by the other characters. For example, they were referred to as couch potatoes because they were too slow to do anything else. However, this made them feel more realistic. I can honestly state that this book has no negative aspects.
There is no reason for me to give this book lower than 4 out of 4 stars.
Young adults and older readers are the appropriate audiences for this book. This novel is for you if you enjoy animal, adventure, and fantasy books. There is no religious, profanity, or sexual content to distract from the story.
