Children Drown Without a Sound
Drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death among children between 1 and 4 years. It is the third leading cause of death among children.
• Teach children to never go near the water without an adult.
• Put away the cell phone while you supervise the children in
the water.
• Infants or toddlers around water must be within arm’s reach
and the ONLY thing on your mind.
• Children in the water need to know how to tread water,
float, and stay by the shore.
• Water wings and noodles are toys. Only a US Coast Guard-
approved personal flotation device will keep your child safe.
• Enroll your child in swimming lesson when you feel they are
ready.
• When leaving the pool area, remove toys from the water
and store them away from the pool.
• Remove water from wading pools, tubs, and buckets. Store
them upside down and out of children’s reach.
• Keep toilet lids closed. Use toilet seat locks.
• Keep doors to bathroom and laundry rooms closed.
• Learn CPR.
• To prevent illness at the pool, always use waterproof diapers
for your infant, and change them often.
