Seeing Swarming Ants With Wings Around Your Home?

If you’re noticing flying ants, ants with wings, or a sudden increase in ant activity, you may be seeing a swarming ant colony. Swarming ants often appear during warmer weather as colonies grow and reproduce, and can sometimes signal an infestation near your home.

Common signs of a swarming ant problem:
* Large groups of winged ants indoors or outdoors
* Ants near windows, doors, kitchens, or bathrooms
* Small piles of discarded wings
* Increased ant activity around your foundation, mulch, or cracks in concrete

Many people confuse flying ants with termites, so proper identification is important for the right treatment.

The mouse in the garage with enormous eyes and white feet isn't a house mouse. She's a deer mouse — native, and the most common wild mammal in North America.

The house mouse is uniformly gray-brown with small eyes and a naked tail the same color on both sides. She's introduced, lives permanently in human structures, and chews wiring. She's the one that colonizes kitchens.

🌿 The deer mouse has large dark eyes, white belly, white feet, and a sharply bicolored tail — dark on top, white below. She lives outdoors in woodlands and fields. She enters garages and sheds in fall for warmth but doesn't move into the house.

She eats seeds, berries, insects, and fungi. She's a primary food source for owls, foxes, and snakes.

🐾 The one-second diagnostic:

- Large eyes + white feet + bicolored tail = deer mouse. Native.
- Small eyes + uniform gray + scaly uniform tail = house mouse. Introduced.

One safety note: in some regions, deer mice can carry hantavirus. Don't sweep or vacuum droppings — wet-clean with disinfectant and ventilate the space first.

One of the hardest parts about identifying bed bugs is that there often isn’t enough evidence during the first 30 days of an infestation. 👀
Many people expect to immediately see bugs crawling around or wake up covered in bites — but that’s usually not how bed bugs work.
During the early stages: ✔ Many people have little to no bite reaction
✔ Bed bugs stay hidden during the day
✔ Evidence can be extremely limited
✔ Small populations are hard to spot without experience
In some cases, it can take 2–3 months before enough bed bugs are present to notice them during the daytime.
Early signs may include:
Tiny black spotting on sheets or mattresses
Small blood spots on bedding
Shed skins near mattress seams
Occasional unexplained bites
Bed bugs are excellent hitchhikers and commonly spread through travel, hotels, apartments, used furniture, and public spaces.
If something feels “off,” trust your instincts and have it checked early before populations grow.

Don’t Bring Home Friends From Vacation
Bed bugs are some of the best hitchhikers in the world. They can travel home in luggage, backpacks, clothing, and personal belongings without being noticed.
Before unpacking after vacation:
- Inspect your luggage
-Wash clothes on high heat
-Keep suitcases off beds and floors while traveling
A few minutes of prevention can help avoid a major headache later.
