Establishing a good stand of clover can be difficult especially with the dry conditions we’ve been having throughout May. For this particular food plot planting we mixed in clover and chicory with brassicas last August with intentions of this plot being straight clover and chicory for the next 3-5 years. The plot turned out great last fall as the deer hit the brassicas and bulbs well into the winter. We just completed the first mowing this week and the clover and chicory have filled in nicely. Mowing is a great way to eliminate w**d competition and allow the clover and chicory stand to thicken up and form a canopy to block out new w**d growth. I anticipate a lot of deer will be using this food plot all summer and fall! 🍀🦌👌🏻

The buck stops here!🛑🦌 If you’re fortunate to have enough area to plant larger, 2+ acre destination type food plots, it’s tough to beat soybeans! Summer bachelor group bucks and the late season draw of soybeans makes them an easy choice for land managers and food plotters. We’ve knocked out a lot of these plots the past few weeks with more on the schedule. Happy food plotting and bring on some rain!

2025 archery buck is back home! Never thought I’d be able to have much history with an individual buck on a smaller parcel surrounded by predominantly agricultural fields and heavy road traffic but it was very fulfilling to watch this buck settle into our property the last few years. Adding cover to the property with an emphasis on diversity has been our goal over the last 10+ years through tree/shrub plantings, hinge cutting/TSI work, & grass plantings. All of which has made a huge difference in our overall deer sightings and daylight trail camera activity. This deer was the proof of all of it coming together along with a lot of patience, minimal pressure, and of course some luck as all of us bowhunters need on our side. Thanks to Ryan Immortal Whitetails for the great work on him, it’s great to have him back home!
