✨ Employee Spotlight: Susan Harte ✨

One year in as Project Administrator for Lighting Services, and Susan Harte has already made it clear she's exactly the kind of person UMS is better for having. The kind who shows up, cares about the work, and genuinely appreciates the people around her.

If you want a window into who Susan is, look no further than her superpower of choice. During the years she spent shuttling her kids, Jack and Sarah, to sports practices and games, her dream was a flying car to lift her right over all that traffic and get her where she needed to be. Any parent who has lived through those years knows exactly what she's talking about, and loves her for it!

Her bucket list destination is Italy, and the story behind it is one of the most endearing things we've heard. She and her husband had long dreamed of going for their 25th anniversary. Instead, when their daughter Sarah went abroad for her junior year of college, they sent her to Italy. Just like that, the dream trip became a gift. They're planning to finally make it happen themselves in 2028, and we're already rooting for them.

The best advice Susan carries with her is something she didn't learn from a book or a mentor — she learned it from raising Jack and Sarah. Take one day at a time and don't stress over the small things. Looking back on those busy, hectic years of parenthood, she says there was nothing to be stressed about. All it was ever really about was enjoying time with her family. That kind of perspective is hard-won and worth holding onto.

For a lighter recommendation, Susan's pick is Friends, the kind of show that holds up no matter how many times you've seen it. She still laughs at every rerun, and honestly, that's a personality trait we can all appreciate.

Ask her what she loves most about UMS and she says everything — but especially the people. "It's so nice to work at a company that cares about each employee." One year in, and she already feels it. That means everything.

So glad you're part of the team, Susan. 🙌

✨ Employee Spotlight: Kaden Beyl ✨

Five years as a Meter Installer at UMS, and Kaden Beyl is the kind of person who makes you realize you might not know your colleagues as well as you think!

On the surface, he shows up, does the work, and does it well. But outside of the job, Kaden is actively trading the markets and running a community of more than 200 people he helps every single day. Not just as a side project, but as a calling. He's already thinking about how to turn that into something bigger, with a goal of being able to formally teach others what he knows about the markets in the year ahead.

If he could have any superpower, Kaden would choose time manipulation. The ability to get the best out of every moment, and to rewind when things don't go the way he planned. For someone who thinks as strategically as he does, that tracks!

His bucket list destination is Dubai. He wants to experience the lifestyle, take in everything the city has to offer, and connect with people who think big.

If he could sit down to dinner with anyone from history, he'd choose Warren Buffett, and the question he'd ask is one of the most thoughtful we've heard: what did success cost you that you didn't realize you were paying for until you'd already achieved it? That's a question from someone who isn't just chasing success but thinking about what comes with it.

The best advice Kaden carries with him is simple: "you can't control what comes at you, but you can control what happens next." It's a philosophy behind everything he does.

For a film recommendation, he points to "Wolf of Wall Street," and his favorite thing about UMS is meeting new people. Five years in and he's still energized by the connections.

Every project UMS delivers, on time, on budget, and to the right standard, has this team to thank for it. Meet our Project Management Office: Kian Davis , Ernie Machia , Michael Manor , Rick Soper , Elizabeth Fetherolf , Teresa Bradshaw , Brandon Abelseth , and Deanna Pottinger! 👋

Leading the team is our Director, Kian Davis, who sets the strategic direction for project delivery at UMS and ensures the PMO operates with the structure, standards, and accountability that keep our work consistently excellent. Our Project Managers, Ernie, Michael, and Rick, are the architects of ex*****on by planning scope and timelines, aligning teams and stakeholders, managing risk, and making sure every project stays on track financially and operationally from kickoff to closeout. Keeping the engine running smoothly behind the scenes is our Operations Process Manager, Elizabeth, who designs and refines the workflows that make day-to-day operations efficient, consistent, and built for continuous improvement. And supporting it all are our Project Coordinators, Teresa, Brandon, and Deanna, who handle the details that keep projects moving, from documentation and tracking to communication, meeting support, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Together, they are the reason our projects don't just get started. They get finished and finished well. 💙
