🇮🇹Buona Festa, Hammonton!
Some feast day history:
July 16th is the Feast Day of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Immigrants from Italy (& most notably Sicily) began to arrive in Hammonton after the Civil War. These Italian farmers would initiate the tradition to give thanks to Our Lady for a successful harvest. The celebration of thanks would include prayer and a procession through the fields with an image of Our Lady. The tradition was born and has been a part of our family since our first generation called Hammonton home.
Happy 150 years!
