June is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Month
Trauma can be physical (direct force to area- medical professionals use this term frequently) and psychological (emotional response causing distress or it's considered disturbing).
There are 3 types of trauma:
Acute - single event
Chronic - exposed to multiple, long-term, and/or prolonged distressing, events
Complex - exposure to varied and multiple events or experiences (interpersonal). Complex trauma often has a severe impact on the personβs mind. It may be seen in individuals who have been victims of childhood abuse, neglect, domestic violence, family disputes, and other repetitive situations, such as civil unrest. It affects the personβs overall health, relationships, and performance at work or school.
For any of the 3 traumas, symptoms may look like:
Excessive anxiety or panic attacks
Depression
Irritation
Confusion
Inability to have a restful sleep
Feeling of disconnection from surroundings
Unreasonable lack of trust in self and others
Inability to focus on work or studies
Lack of self-care or grooming
Aggressive behaviors
Unpredictable emotional outbursts, anxiety, extreme anger, flashbacks, fatigue, body aches, headaches, and nausea. These individuals may have trust issues, and hence, they do not have stable relationships or keeping jobs.
Please seek help from a trained professional so your symptoms can be reduced and you can HEAL.
