As a small business owner, I hate having to make a post like this, because the majority of our customers at Hanceville Pack & Ship are absolutely wonderful, supportive, and appreciated more than you know.
I always try my best to accommodate everyone and keep our prices as fair and reasonable as possible (honestly, probably too reasonable at times). But something happened today that I feel is important to address.
A gentleman came in today questioning why he was charged for packing materials and boxes on a shipment. He stated that another pack & ship store in another city “didn’t charge him anything” for similar packaging services and wanted to know why we charged him $17.
I explained that if a carrier-branded box is used, sometimes there is no charge for the box itself. However, when we provide boxes, packing materials, and professionally pack items for shipment — especially multiple boxes — there is, of course, a cost associated with that service. That’s simply part of running a business.
Even though I truly believed we had done nothing wrong, I refunded his money because I never want a customer leaving thinking we overcharged them. Afterward, I contacted the other store owner myself, and he confirmed exactly what I had explained: unless carrier-branded packaging is used, they also charge for boxes and packing services.
The reason I’m sharing this is not to complain, but to help people understand that small businesses like ours work very hard to provide quality service while keeping prices reasonable. We are not a giant corporation with endless resources. Every box, every piece of packing material, and every service we provide has a real cost attached to it.
At Hanceville Pack & Ship, we truly go above and beyond for our customers every day. We appreciate every person who supports us, shops local, and understands the value of good service. Thankfully, the overwhelming majority of our customers are kind, supportive, and amazing people.
Unfortunately, there will always be a few situations where someone is unhappy or expects something for nothing — but that will never change the way we care for the customers who support us every single day.
