Investing in People. Investing in Our Future.

When Robert joined No Frills last fall, he came on board as a driver helper. Throughout the winter, he learned our delivery operations, rode routes with experienced drivers, and gained a firsthand understanding of how we serve our customers every day.

Partway through the winter, Rob told us he wanted to take the next step and become a driver.

This spring, we were proud to sponsor him through the NTI program, where he earned his Class B CDL and HazMat endorsement. He successfully completed the program and is now working through our driver onboarding process so he’ll be ready to serve our customers from behind the wheel this coming winter.

Our founders, Charlie and Kathy Birdsall, always believed that if an employee was willing to commit to the company, the company should be willing to commit to them.

That’s why we don’t lay our drivers off during the summer. Instead, we keep them working, continue investing in their development, and create opportunities for them to grow their careers. Whether that’s additional training, certifications, or advancing into new roles, we believe our people are our greatest investment.

Congratulations, Rob, on everything you’ve accomplished. Thank you for your hard work, your commitment to learning, and for helping us take care of our customers.

Reputations aren’t built overnight—and they aren’t repaired overnight either.

Building trust takes years. Losing it can happen much faster.

The review on the left is a real review from several years ago. The review on the right is from a customer we’ve had the privilege of serving more recently.

At No Frills Oil, we believe our customers deserve to see both.

For those who may not know our story, No Frills Oil was founded more than 45 years ago by Charlie and Kathy Birdsall. Charlie remained an owner until his passing in December 2025, and Kathy Birdsall continues to own the company today.

Over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of building an incredible team. I couldn’t be prouder of the people who come to work every day committed to doing things the right way.

Unfortunately, we’ve also heard firsthand from customers about service experiences that fell short of the standard our family expects. Those conversations haven’t always been easy, but they’ve been invaluable. They’ve helped shape the company we’re building today.

Our team answers the phone. We show up. We continue to invest in training, compliance, and customer service because we believe every interaction is an opportunity to earn trust.

The positive review on the right isn’t the finish line—it is evidence that the hard work of our team is making a difference.

Did you know that Wardwell Oil has been part of the No Frills family for more than eight years?

Believe it or not, we’re still surprised by how many people don’t realize it!

When Horace and Sylvia Wardwell decided to retire after more than 60 years in the heating oil business, they wanted to ensure the company they had built—and the customers they cared so deeply about—would remain in the hands of another local, family-owned business that shared their values.

We are incredibly grateful that Charlie and Kathy Birdsall were entrusted with carrying on that legacy.

Over the years, you may have noticed a few changes:
🟢 The familiar red trucks have gradually become the green and gold you’ve come to recognize as No Frills Oil.
🟢 With No Frills we have expanded beyond heating oil by adding propane delivery, a full-service heating department, and 24/7 emergency delivery and service.
🟢 Today, our combined fleet has grown to 18 trucks, proudly serving customers across four Maine counties—and we’re still growing.

As we recently commissioned our new Wardwell Oil roadside sign, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate not only the history of the Wardwell name, but also the future we’re building together.

In observance of the Independence Day holiday, our office will be closed tomorrow July 3rd.
