Former Southern California Mayor Pleads Guilty to Acting as Illegal Agent for China

Former Arcadia Mayor Eileen Wang has pleaded guilty to federal charges accusing her of secretly acting as an illegal agent for China, prosecutors announced Friday. Wang, 58, entered the plea agreement months after authorities alleged she worked to promote the interests of the Chinese government before being elected to the Arcadia City Council.

Wang resigned as mayor and stepped down from the council after felony charges were unveiled on May 11. She agreed to plead guilty to one count of acting in the United States as an unregistered foreign agent, a charge that carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison.
