If You’re a Female between 40-50 years old and concerned about Osteoporosis PREVENTION.

Here is the full Lab Panel I would build for you!

There are other markers your health care provider can look at as well— but after countless hours of research - this is what I personally recommend.

✅FSH - Follicle Stimulating Hormone: levels often INCREASE prior to declining estrogen and can be linked to faster bone resorption

✅Estradiol: declining levels increase blind turnover.

✅Total Testosterone: as this converts to Estradiol - extremely low level = lower estradiol = decreased bone density

✅SHBG - S*x Hormone Binding Globulin: HIGH levels decrease free (active) estrogen - meaning your body can’t use it.

✅DHEA-S: Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate - shows adrenal androgen production which is very important as o***y function declines during menopause

✅25-OH Vit D: this is essential for calcium absorption and bone mineralization.

✅PTH: high PTH —> pulls calcium from bones and increases bone resorption

✅CTX - C- Terminal Telopeptide: high levels = high bone resorption

IMPORTANT NOTE: it’s important to track trends, not just 1 level at 1 point in time. In addition — Labs are part of the picture - not the whole picture.

‼️ But here is a really AWESOME stat - women who perform consistent Resistance Training Program have osteoporosis rates UNDER 10% after 50 years old. Not women who “just exercise”. No. We are talking about chronic heavy loading with dumbells, barbells, or machines.

Resistance Training is LITERALLY the Fountain of Youth. Except you don’t “find” it. You Earn it😄😉

🏋️‍♀️You NEED a HEAVY RESISTANCE TRAINING PROGRAM

🦴Bones respond to LOADED Stress. Movements like Squats, Deadlifts, Overhead Press, Weighted Step Ups, Lunges WILL IMPROVE your Bone Density.

A Physical Therapist who is treating Osteoporosis MUST UNDERSTAND these movements, how to instruct them safely for Middle-Upper Aged individuals ! This is mandatory.

Lift Heavy- Always.

Women: lift heavy weights

Men: lift heavy weights

Perimenopause? Lift heavy weights

Weak Bones: lift heavy weights.

Injured? Lift Heavy weights

Why?

Heavy resistance training is one of the most powerful ways to preserve muscle, strength, and independence as humans age. Without enough loading, the body slowly loses muscle mass, bone density, tendon stiffness, and physical resilience.

Bones adapt directly to force, which is why heavy resistance training is critical for people with osteopenia and osteoporosis. Walking alone is often not enough stimulus to significantly improve bone density in the hips and spine.

For women in perimenopause and menopause, declining estrogen accelerates muscle loss, bone loss, and metabolic slowdown. Heavy strength training directly counters these changes by improving lean mass, insulin sensitivity, balance, and skeletal loading.

Even injured individuals usually need progressive resistance training because tissues heal stronger when appropriately loaded. Muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bone all respond positively to gradual mechanical stress when programmed correctly.

Heavy resistance training is not just about building muscle or aesthetics — it is a longevity intervention. Stronger people have lower fall risk, better metabolic health, greater confidence, and a higher quality of life across nearly every decade of adulthood.
