School safety involves much more than putting a security officer at the front door.

Pennsylvania school districts must consider the type of security personnel they use, how those individuals are trained and supervised, how they interact with students and staff, and how they fit into the district’s overall safety and emergency preparedness strategy.

INA has published a new whitepaper to help school leaders work through those decisions.

School Security Personnel in Pennsylvania provides a practical overview of School Resource Officers, School Police Officers and School Security Guards, along with guidance on training, provider selection, common implementation mistakes and other issues school administrators and school board members should consider.

There is no single security model that is right for every school district. The goal is to develop a program that is properly trained, effectively managed and appropriate for the community it serves.
