Another recent project NIXE completed was an evaluation of a historic hazardous waste landfill.

The effort involved intensive review of site investigations, regulatory correspondence, and legacy documentation to characterize site conditions, clarify cleanup status, and identify potential data gaps and next steps. Drawing on my Remedial Project Manager training and experience with contaminated sites, I provided recommendations to support informed decision making.

Legacy waste sites present long-term challenges, and it's a privilege to contribute to work that helps move these sites toward clarity and responsible stewardship.

What a busy time! Finally coming up for air and ready to share some updates about some projects I'm proud of. NIXE recently completed a months-long environmental toxics research effort focused on contaminants in water and sediments of the Salish Sea.

The work involved source identification and characterization, including legacy contamination and active industrial operations, and synthesizing current science on potential human health and ecological effects for concerned communities.

The primary focus was polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), a complex contaminant group with persistent environmental and public-health relevance.

It was a challenging and rewarding project, and I look forward to seeing where the next phase leads.

I recently completed Arizona State University’s Indigenous Conservation Collaborations course and recommend it for anyone working in conservation, environmental policy, or community-based stewardship.

A key takeaway for me was a deeper appreciation for these collaborations as a relationship based on humility, reciprocity, and Indigenous-led priorities. The course strengthened my technical understanding and my approach to ethical, relationship-based conservation work.

If your work intersects with Indigenous communities or natural resource stewardship in any way, I strongly recommend this course.

Grateful for the learning opportunity and insights it provided.

I'm happy to share that my family and my business have moved to Spokane Valley, Washington. It was hard to leave the Wildlife Management Area where we spent the last 8 years, but it was time. David was promoted as IDFG's Biologist for the WMA. He's now working from Coeur d'Alene, so that meant a move!

I’m grateful for the start NIXE had near Harrison, Idaho, working alongside clients and partners who trusted me to support their projects over the past three years. That foundation shaped NIXE’s path and strengthened my commitment to continue delivering thoughtful, high-quality work. I've so enjoyed these projects.

Idaho will always be my home state, and I'll keep those deep roots. We're not far away, and the move to Spokane Valley opens new opportunities, convenience, and a base that expands my ability to serve clients. The ease of communication is so nice after years without reliable cell coverage. With immense gratitude for where I've been, I’m excited to see what's ahead.

Winning a grant is just the beginning. With NIXE, I guide clients through the details after the award, especially with large federal grants, where contracts can take time to work out the details to finalize.

That means less stress, more confidence, and steady support every step of the way.

With NIXE, I’ve been busy diving into water policy. Recently, I reviewed Washington’s draft Nonpoint Source Management Plan and Ecology’s nutrient management strategies for Puget Sound.

I provided recommendations to strengthen water quality protections, bringing 20+ years of experience in policy and planning to this work I truly enjoy.
