Special Cyber Security PSA: Recently there has been a Facebook “profile viewer” application floating around that many people are using and sharing on their pages. This is fraudulent and not an actual profile viewer. Facebook does not collect profile viewing data and neither does any third-party applications. Please DO NOT use any third party application claiming to provide you with a list of who has viewed your profile. If you previously have done this we suggest you remove the post so more people do not click on the potentially malicious link and you should immediately change the password on your account in case the website/application is gathering this data. RTS will continue to provide information keeping you and your information safe.

Kentucky State Police Investigates Internet Scam

On October 24, 2022, a Kentucky State Police Post 5 detective received a complaint about an internet scam in Trimble County. The victim had been scammed into sending $520.00 to a fictitious computer protection program he was told he needed during a telephone call.

The victim was instructed to send money to a PO box in Atlanta, Georgia. Detective Dave Roberts contacted the US Postal Service and obtained the information for the subject who controlled the PO box. Throughout his investigation, Detective Roberts determined that the box holder, a resident of Atlanta, had been receiving money from numerous subjects from various locations throughout the United States. It was determined the funds were then forwarded out of the country.

More than $40,000 was recovered as a result of this investigation. Kentucky State Police was assisted in the investigation by the US Postal Service. This is an ongoing investigation.

Do you reuse the same password for multiple different websites and services? Is your personal email password the same as your work passwords? Password reusing is a major problem for Cyber Security experts and puts your accounts at risk. A hacker getting a single password of yours that is linked to multiple accounts could mean loss of access to email, banking accounts, and other sensitive information. One way many people get around this is by using a password manager, but not all password managers are equal and some cause more harm than good. Many password managers have the ability to generate unique-randomly generated passwords for each individual account you own and scrub the dark web for possible leaks of your passwords so you can rest at ease knowing that if a data leak happens you'll be the first to know. Do you have an iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer? Then you need to update immediately! Apple notified security firms this week of a dangerous vulnerability that is found in all 3 devices that can allow attackers to gain complete control of your device through infected web content. To check on iPhone and iPad you go to Settings, General, Software Update. For Mac users you'll click the Apple Menu in the corner, then System Preferences, and Software Update.

Hey everyone, wanted to explain a bit on what business services and support I offer. All of my business support is done in an hourly rate unlike most of my individual services. All of the services I provide would be too much to list out in a single post, however examples of such are backups (both cloud-based and physical on-site), setup and teardown of computer systems, POS support that is outside the scope of your POS provider, email and website support (not including website design), and even computer literacy support for small business owners and their employees. As stated above I provide a lot more support than just what is listed, if you have a question about staying current with your businesses' technology needs please reach out.

Hey everyone, so here is going to be my current pricing. I have gone back and forth on this and consulted a few people in my field as well as some competitor research and came to this pricing. I believe it leaves me competitive with markets that I wish to move in to and leaves room for the business to grow. Inflation has truly affected every market including computer repair. Prices are subject to change and I will be using feedback in the next few months to make changes for a more long-term pricing but I think this reflects where I wish to be currently.
