…this will be great for the insecure manager who wants to control everything.

Most managers who are micromanaging means they have lost sight of leadership and think that by controlling other people they will get results.

Microsoft’s AI badge is capitalizing on those insecure leaders.

Will it be a success?

I think for Microsoft yes and no. The insecure manager will lean into this but it will make employees feel unsafe. Therefore, employees will leave and turnover will skyrocket. And then as always it’s back to the drawing board.

Real leadership is not surveillance. It’s coaching people and leading them in the right direction.

if you don’t wanna rely on micromanaging, and actually coach your team effectively, comment COACH and I’ll send you the details for my PDF bundle on How to Master Employee Coaching

Character is everything when you become a leader.

If you treat people poorly because of their status, eventually no one will follow you.

Human beings are all equal in the fact that we all will die and be buried next to one another one day.

Why treat someone badly because you think you are better? Life has an interesting way of humbling people.

Make the decision today to treat everyone with respect. From the CEO to the janitor.

I remember when I needed people and was understaffed I was afraid to hold my team accountable because I was afraid they would leave.

I let a lot of things slide because I was overwhelmed. But then I realized I was making things worse and no one was respecting me.

So these are the three things I used to completely fix my ‘being too nice’ phase.

1. Practice saying no.
I know it sounds simple, but literally just saying ‘no, no, no’ in the mirror before work programs your mind to not be so agreeable. If you tend to try to please people, practice this as often as you can. Being conscious of it is the first step.

2. Give the reason why
If you feel like you’re the bad guy it’s because you aren’t explaining the reason why to your team. A simple ‘we are busy right now, let’s revisit this later’ can explain that your time is valuable and you value it highly because the company needs all hands on deck right now.

3. Ask yourself ‘can this person be a leader?’
When you start holding high standards you will realize how things shift automatically. If you are working on building leaders your standards will dictate outcomes. Be insanely curious on who can lead and who can’t.

As a manager you will have to coach people and when you do, you might be like me at first and have no idea how to handle when team members go on the defensive what and make excuses.

After years of coaching employees I saw there are three different tactics any of us will use when we feel we need to defend ourselves:

1. Distraction
Basically the team member will try to point to other issues when you hold them accountable.
“You’re talking to me about this when our elevator hasn’t been working for 3 weeks!’

2. Deflection
This is pointing to someone else who does the same behavior or something they shame you into not correcting.
“You’re telling me this when _ is late every day?”

3. Defeatism
They will clam up and act as if you are the villain.
“Why are you always picking on me? I have so much going on lately”

These tactics can be very useful if you don’t know how to handle them and can cause frustration when it comes to trying to change behaviors.

I put all the solutions and how to handle these defensive tactics, plus effective ways to coach employees into a massive PDF bundle

Stop thinking your only options are the ones you have at your finger tips.

The best managers know how to get creative when it comes to coaching.

Here are the strategies insiders use:

-Have your one on ones where the rest of the team can see you.
Why it works: Still keep it private, after all, you are coaching and getting important feedback, but doing this in eye of people will start to get the team talking. ‘What are they talking about?’ ‘I wonder if they’ll talk to me next?’ ‘Looks like management is taking things seriously’. You create a culture of curiosity of growth.

-Use ‘Tell me more’ often and frequently when talking to your people.
Why it works: You’re not faking interest you’re telling your team: I’m interested, I want to know more. Most employees who feel heard have higher productivity rates.

-Be the first person to say ‘Hi’ when you see any team member
Why it works: This is a great subtle psychological hack to let people know that they matter to you. No one is too important or less than important, by you saying ‘hi’ first you’re telling your team, ‘you matter to me.’

I created a MASSIVE PDF Bundle that has more of these hacks and tricks that will help you stand out to your team, comment COACH and I’ll send you the link to get it!

Am I crazy or do managers just want to stop talking to their people?

It seems like there’s this new thing going around in the management space where people are saying yeah just don’t do one at once with your people. You don’t need to talk to them and waste your time.

And while I can appreciate that everybody has different approaches on certain things, one thing I’ve learned in the past in my 15 years of leadership is that all leadership comes down to is the ability to influence someone else.

The best way to be able to do this is to listen to someone. Ask the right questions and listen to what they say. People feel heard means they feel loved when they feel loved. They are more apt to be influenced by what you tell them.

If your goal is to create the best lives for your people, you’ll have zero problem, influencing someone else

The average cost in turnover is typically 30/50% of an annual salary.

So if you hire someone for 100k and it doesn’t work out, you just threw away 30-50k.

OUCH.

A lot of managers, fire people who just needed good coaching, and good direction. The challenges most managers have zero idea how to coach their team members to get better results.
