Thursday's 23rd annual Latinas in Leadership Symposium was a powerful celebration of courage, culture, community, and the next generation of leaders.
From the moment Founder & CEO Marilyn Alverio salsa-danced onto the stage and energized the 700+ attendees, the room was filled with inspiration and connection that carried throughout the entire day.
We heard moving stories from Latinas in Leadership Institute graduates, celebrated Latina Champions and the Entrepreneur of the Year, explored insightful breakout sessions, and supported dozens of talented local vendors showcasing their work.
One theme echoed again and again: be proud, be fearless, and do the unexpected. As one speaker shared, “The heartbeat of growth is being audacious.”
It was especially inspiring to see so many local high school students in attendance, including Newington High School senior Jenna Sanseverino, who shared her beautiful essay on how last year’s event shaped her perspective as a young Latina from Hartford.
And the highlight of the day — hearing from the trailblazing Dolores Huerta, who was honored with the Living Legend Award. At 96 years old, her passion for social justice and advocating for workers’ rights remains as powerful as ever. She capped off the day by leading a thunderous “Sí se puede” chant that brought the entire room together in a truly unforgettable moment.
The CONNSTEP team was honored to be part of such an impactful event celebrating leadership, resilience, and the power of community.
