I felt such a joy creating this beautiful ceremony with you. It was clear how much your family and friends meant to you, and how many people touched your lives. Everyone could feel the love between you and Sam.

ZAPPIA – Amber Danielle Zappia, 31, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 9, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was the devoted wife of Samuel E. Zappia of Harwinton and loving mother of their son, Carter Zappia, whom she treasured beyond words.
Born May 17, 1990 in Torrington; the cherished daughter of Giles "Bud" Potter, III and Sally (Bartram) Potter of Wi******er Center. Amber grew up in Winsted and graduated from Gilbert High School, Class of 2008. She attended Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School and was a talented hairdresser working for over ten years at Salon Q in Torrington for her "work mother," Barb Qteza, and was known for her amazing color talents. She had close relationships with all her many, many clients and co-workers. She enjoyed going on cruises with her family, hanging out at her parent's home and getting her nails done. She loved the color pink and will forever be remembered for the pink swirl in her hair and her contagious laugh which could be heard across the room. Amber wore her tattoos proudly, with each one holding special meaning to her. She will be deeply missed and thought of every day.
In addition to her husband, son and parents, she leaves her brother, Eric Potter and wife Violet and their sons, Reef Potter and Corbin Bryan, all of FL; close in-laws, Eileen Moriaty and husband Dennis of Harwinton; father-in-law, Joseph Zappia and partner Sylvia Dailey of Winsted; maternal and paternal grandparents; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather; a special aunt, Wendy Sedgwick with whom she shared not only this devastating disease but also a secret talent; and uncle, Daniel Potter, for whom her middle name is in remembrance of.
Friends may call on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 3 – 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, Winsted at 11 AM. Visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Neuro-Oncology Center at Yale for their tireless efforts to fight alongside Amber and Sam. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the CT Brain Tumor Alliance in Avon CT.
