FEMA has announced $1 billion in funding through the FY24–25 Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program.

BRIC continues to emphasize proactive investment, helping communities reduce future damage, protect lives, and lower recovery costs over time because resilience starts before disaster hits.

This funding supports a wide range of projects, from large-scale infrastructure improvements to initiatives that reduce risk from natural hazards before disasters strike.

The application window is now open and closes July 23, 2026.

Winter Storm Fern is now tracking across the U.S. and expected to impact a massive swath of the country — potentially over 230 million people — with heavy snow, ice, freezing rain, and dangerously cold temperatures from the South through the Midwest and into the Northeast this weekend.

Snowfall totals of 6–12+” are possible in many areas, with significant ice accumulations that could lead to tree damage, power outages, and hazardous travel conditions. Alerts and winter storm warnings already span dozens of states as crews pre-treat roads and communities prepare for disruption.

Storms like Fern highlight how critical proactive planning, clear communication, and coordinated response are before, during, and after a storm. From maintaining mobility and public safety to ensuring continuity of essential services, preparedness plays a key role in reducing risk and supporting recovery.

In our latest blog, Winter Storm Preparedness: Planning for Safety and Continuity, we share key considerations for agencies and organizations preparing for winter weather events—including operational readiness, interagency coordination, and post-storm improvement.

The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has announced the availability of approximately $1.45 billion through its Disaster Supplemental Grant Program to support communities impacted by federally declared disasters in 2023 and 2024. This funding is intended to advance economic recovery, resilience, and long-term redevelopment efforts.

Eligible applicants include state and local governments, Economic Development Districts (EDDs), nonprofits, and institutions of higher education. The program is designed to support a range of activities, from planning and infrastructure investments to projects that strengthen local and regional economies.

The EDA Disaster NOFO establishes three funding pathways, each intended to address different recovery and redevelopment needs. We’ll be sharing additional insights on these pathways as part of an ongoing series.

Our team is readily available to assist organizations in identifying, developing, and managing Disaster Supplemental Grant Program projects. For communities evaluating this opportunity, we provide support from early project concept development through application and implementation.
