Fastmarkets RISI, the industry's pricing benchmark since the 1970s, tracks OCC and other grades across nine distinct North American regions, each shaped by its own port access, transportation costs, and end-market demand.

For businesses generating cardboard and paper, knowing which region you're priced against is the difference between guessing your material's value and actually negotiating it.

Our latest post walks through all nine regions and what the map means for your bottom line, wherever you operate.

The OCC price in the headlines isn't what your cardboard is worth to your business.

Freight, bale quality, load weight, contamination deductions, and which mills can realistically buy your material all sit between the posted benchmark and the number that reaches your bottom line.

The better question isn't "What's cardboard worth today?" It's "What are we actually keeping per ton?"

Most grocers treat cardboard as trash. Rouses Markets treats it as an asset.

Across 76 stores in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, old corrugated cardboard has become a recoverable revenue stream - not just something hauled away. The difference isn't the material. It's the model behind it.

Inside the case study: how FV Recycling's bale-route program keeps OCC moving out of tight back-of-store spaces week after week, how bale quality is protected store by store, and why one facility's VP hasn't had to repair a single facility issue caused by an FV driver.

FV Recycling was proud to take part in Touch a Truck, hosted by Hattiesburg Parks and Recreation for their summer camp program! 🚛♻️

Our team brought out our hook truck and had the opportunity to share with dozens of curious kids exactly what we do, recovering and recycling old corrugated cardboard to keep valuable materials out of landfills. Events like these are a meaningful reminder that sustainability starts with education, and there's no better time to spark that curiosity than in childhood.

We're grateful for our partnership with Hattiesburg Parks and Recreation and the chance to invest in our community. Thank you for including us in such a fun, impactful day.

Beginning today, August 3, free lunches and dinners will be served at Calvary Bible Church (1450 Oakridge Rd., Neenah, WI), with lunch available daily at 11:30 a.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m. Meal service is tentatively planned to continue through August 8.

If you know someone in the Neenah area who could benefit from a warm meal this week, we hope you'll help us spread the word by sharing this post.

We're grateful for the support of our parent company, Jones Capital, and for the opportunity to partner with Jones Logistics, Calvary Bible Church, and the many volunteers serving the Fox Valley community this week.

‼️IMPORTANT UPDATE: A lot of you have messaged, so we wanted to share our plan for this coming week (August 3-7). We are closed today (Sunday, August 2) so we can gather as a church family to worship God. We will open again for donation drop-off and pick-up on Monday, August 3 from 11:00 am-7:00 pm. The plan is to stay open this week but we will have to assess as the week progresses. Winnebago County and Volunteer Fox Cities is stopping all donations at 5 pm today. Thank you so much for your immense generosity. Check here, and our webpage (cbcneenah.org/cbccrisisresponse), for updates and a full needs list.

1) One note on supplies - we have plenty of water, toilet paper, paper towels, and diapers/wipes. We don't need more of those at this time. If you know someone who still needs them, please tell them to come visit on Monday.

2) Many of you have asked if you can come get supplies for people you know who need them. Yes, you absolutely can! We have plenty of storage bins and boxes to transport supplies too.

3) We will need volunteers throughout the week again, daily, from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm. If you are available and willing to lend a hand, just stop on by and we will find a place for you! We are very grateful for the help.

4) We will have meals daily this week at the church. Lunch will be at 11:30 am and dinner will be at 5:30 pm. A huge thank you to Jones Logistics and FV Recycling for their support and donation.

Location: Calvary Bible Church, 1450 Oakridge Rd, Door 15. We have volunteers waiting to help unload vehicles.

Thank you for your prayers, help, and support. 🙏🏼

Managing recycling at one location is hard enough. Across 20, 50, or 100+ sites, it's a different problem, and the breakdowns often stay hidden for months.

One site captures cardboard well, another overpays for disposal, a third contaminates loads. Headquarters thinks it has a program, but really it's a collection of disconnected site-by-site habits.

The good news? Most of these are fixable with a core standard plus local flexibility — consistent policy and reporting at HQ, room to adapt at each location.

Every recycling proposal looks the same on paper: a rate, a schedule, a rebate promise. The differences show up in month three.

A vendor scorecard puts the factors that actually move money side by side - service reliability, asset ownership, equipment program, rebate transparency, reporting and diversion, and material scope - weighted to how your facilities really run.

We built out the full framework, including the RFP questions worth asking before you sign and how to weight categories for a distribution center vs. a grocery chain vs. a manufacturer.

A truck that shows up isn't the same as a partner that delivers.

Not all bale route hauling is created equal. We run our own fleet of trucks and forklifts and operate multiple physical recycling facilities, so we can guarantee pickups, keep your dock clear, and offer rebates that reflect real operational efficiency.

Not sure whether your business needs a baler, a compactor, or an open-top container?

Each serves a purpose. Balers make dense, higher-value cardboard bales. Compactors offer convenience for mixed waste. Open-tops are a simple starting point for smaller generators.

The right choice affects your hauling costs, labor, space, and how much value you recover.
