This evening, a crew of 6 members of the Hawley Fire Department and Hawley Engine 2 were assigned to provide fire protection and emergency response for the truck pulls and the Cumington Fair. Fortunately, the night was without incident. Events such as these showcase the strong mutual aid relationships that exist between our towns. Thank you to Cummington for their hospitality. We'll be back next year.

Today several Hawley Fire members took part in Niles LaValley Celebration Of Life in Westfield MA. Niles as well as his family both played important roles with Hawley Fire in the early 2000’s, his father Gene, serving as a EMT and Captain for numerous years. Niles will be sorely missed.

Due to wind and heavy rainfall we are experiencing downed trees around town. Please use caution and avoid getting close to downed power lines in roadways. Please call 911 and report any trees or lines down. We will do the best we can to keep you updated as we continue to work to clear any blocked roadways.

As of right now we have been dispatched for wires in the roadway between South Rd and Watson Rd.

We’d like to pass on this very important information from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services regarding Lithium-Ion Batteries!

Recently there has been a significant increase in Lithium Ion Battery Fires, which can be extremely difficult to extinguish. Please help us, help you, by following these safety steps!

At approximately 1900hrs (7pm) Hawley Fire responded to a medical incident in East Hawley where an individual fell from a roof. The severity of the call resulted in us calling a helicopter, as well as mutual aid from Ashfield to assist setting up a landing zone in the field behind the Hawley Fire Station. Our thanks to Highland Ambulance, Ashfield Fire Department, Shelburne PD and Life Star for their rapid and professional assistance.

Tonight the members of Hawley Fire trained in some Confined Spaces, and self-extrication from entanglement props. Firefighters went through a Wire Entanglement Prop, as well as a Wall Breech Prop. These props demonstrate less than ideal conditions that a Firefighter may encounter during a structural fire or interior rescue.

We also used our new SCBA’s and focused on the ability to remove these under high stress conditions. Firefighters went through the props with their SCBA donned, as well as doffing it and going through the props.

We would also like to thank our partners at the Charlemont Fire Department for loaning us these props to train with!
